As i have posted earlier about my experience in booking the car.
Here is the preview:
MUL Launched its entry level sedan replacing its old workhorse Maruti Esteem around 3 months ago. For past three months I have been doing surveys for a small car to buy. I had shortlisted Maruti Swift (Diesel Version) out of all the options. I was ready to buy the Swift VDi version which was costing me around Rs. 5.04 Lac (ex showroom, Chandigarh price). Then I was told that there was a waiting for 3-5 months for that car and to top it all they were not even taking in and new bookings for the car. The car was demanding a premium of around Rs. 20,000 if you want next day delivery. I was not at all ready to spend extra 20,000. While I was talking to the GM of a local maruti dealership, he told me that MUL is launching Swift DZire next month. I told him that I am aware about the car and I have seen the pictures. Quite frankly, I did not like what i saw in pre-launch pictures of the Swift Dzire. But that guy said he has seen the car in person and told me that it looked pretty great, infact he went on to say that the back of Dzire looks like Mercedes S-Class (which definitely isn’t the case). But, he insisted on me to wait for Dzire before buying Swift. I did not have any choice as the Swift VDi was not available and I was not ready to pay any premium.
So, when the Maruti Dzire was launched, after looking at their website, I liked the car. But, most the times cars look better in pictures shot by professionals than actual. So, the very next day I went to a local dealership to look at the car. Dzire looked even better in person than on their website. I took the test Drive and liked it. The rear of the car is very attractive. It has a chrome strip running in the center. Bootspace is around 460 liters. Price of the car was pretty decent. The Diesel Version costs between 5.39 lac to 6.70 lac. The petrol version costs between 4.52 lac to 5.92 lac. Features offered in the top end model and great like ABS and EBD, Airbags, automatic Climate control, steering mounted audio controls, tilt steering, height adjustable seats. None of the cars in this price range offers features like these and even some the cars above this price range do not offer features like these.
I was interested in buying the diesel version of the car. I finally decided on the Vdi model which was (before the price hike of 21K) priced at around 5.94 lac. Vdi has a double din integrated MP3 player, a display on the dashboard which gives you time and the temperature, superior upholstery, body colored door handles and RVMs, black A & B pillars, keyless entry, central locking with keyless entry (keyless entry is discontinued now), front and rear power windows when compared to Ldi version. For me this justified for the extra 50,000 in price.
The top model of the car ZDi offers features like ABS, twin air bags, steering mounted audio controls, automatic climate control, alloy wheels, 185X70X14 tires. All these features are very useful and worth paying for, but I didn’t wanted to get into a price bracket of around 7 lac. When you go into that segment, you start looking at other options which might not have the similar set of features but have better brand names like Honda City etc.
Overall, Dzire offers you a very good value for your money. And since its a Maruti, you don’t have to worry about things like spare parts, service centers and resale value.
So, I booked Silky Silver Swift DZire VDi. From the initial survey i found out that if I book the car now I will get a delivery in around 1-2 months. But I found out a newly opened dealership which promised me to deliver the car within a week. But it took more than a month for the car to arrive. I made repeated trips to the dealership and visited their yard. They sold 4 silver VDi’s before mine, however mine was the first one to be booked at that dealership. They kept giving me crap about previous customers changing their colors and they had to give priority to them. I am sure they have sold them at premium.
Anyhow, I now feel lucky that I got it in a month. The waiting period now is 8 months and premium is anywhere between 30k-45k. My car was delivered on 3rd May, 2008. Booking was done on 27th march, 2008.
Okay, lets get down to the car now.
Engine
Dzire comes in 1300cc Multijet diesel. Diesel engine is same that was in Swift. It’s an award winning engine which uses technology from FIAT. No complaints about the engine. Pickup is good, after around 2200 RPM. Noise level inside the cabin is very less for a diesel car. I have been keeping the RPM below 2000 RPM (and plan to do it for first 5k Kms), except a few occasions and speed below 60 for first 1000 Kms. All in all, I am very much satisfied with the engine of the car. EPS is good and turning radius is amazing.
Looks & Styling
The sedan is a replica of the hatchback with a boot attached along. The chunky C-pillar is moved towards the back and rear quarter glass has grown in size. Maruti has extended the rear doors and hence the seats are pushed to the back to give more legroom for the rear passengers. Front seats are comfy and very supportive.
Interiors
Interiors have been refreshed. Integrated single din stereo which plays MP3, WMA, audio CDs and radio is a welcome change. The Speedometer and tachometer looks good with chrome surrounds and are white-lit which looks cool at night.
Fuel Economy
Before the first service at 1k kms, it gave an average of around 15. After the first service, on the full tank I got around 17 kmpl, 2nd tank gave 18.8 kmpl and last time I checked average was 19.3 kmpl with around 3000 KMs on ODO. 70% driving has been on highways with 30% in city, a/c always on.
Issues
A few people told me about the issue with the brakes. People told me that you have push really hard for braking. My car’s brakes were pretty good, never had any problem with it.
I do have the issue with the reverse gear. It gets struck at times. I asked on my first service about the issue and they told me it will be set after around 5k. I really don’t buy that. Is that really the case? What really is the issue? Is it gear oil?
Car rattles on bad roads with potholes. On a smooth road you won’t notice anything and its really very quite. Build quality of the car is not upto the mark. It makes a very cheap thud sound when you close the doors with windows rolled down. Interiors look good, but quality of plastic is very cheap. It seems like, if you punch the dashboard (not that hard) you can drill a hole in it.
The car didn’t really felt planted on speeds above 100. The issue were the tires (JK 165X70X14). I upgraded to Michelin XM1 (185X70X14).
After the tire change car feels planted and well in control on high speeds and while jumping into the turns on speeds above than normal.
After Market Parts:
- 4 X Yokohama A-Drive (195X60-R15) – Rs. 3900 per tyre
- 15 inch alloy wheels – Rs. 15000
- Autoform DriFit seat covers PU/Art Leather with proper bucket type fittings – Rs. 5500 with labor.
- Leather wrap steering cover (Stanley) – Rs. 1250
- 2 sets of Xenos reverse parking sensors (with alarm) – Rs. 2400. Before everyone starts telling me that “why do you need it in a small car like Dzire”, my dad drives this car sometimes. He is not really comfortable with the height of the car and has drive Zen most of his life.
- Pioneer speakers – Rs. 5400
- Relay for glasses (Brand: Scorpio) – Rs. 1000 (which will auto roll up all the window glasses when you lock the car. I have it in my Mahindra Scorpio and really am used to it).
- Sun control film (Lumar) – Rs. 1500
- Generic rubber footmats – Rs. 500
- Metal number plate (embossed type) – Rs. 600
- SONAR Angel Eyes Projector setup – Rs. 11000

PS: It was raining when I clicked the pictures and sony cameras are crap. Pictures are not the best quality. Spots on the car/seat covers are actually on the lens and not in actual.

Got new rubber and alloy wheels.
Earlier i was running on 185X70X14 Michelin XM1+.
I wanted to shift to 15 inch alloys.
Got really good deal for my 15k Kms old Michelin (Rs. 10000 for set of 4 tyres).
I got myself 195X60X15 Yokohama A-Drive.
I badly wanted 205X55X15 S-Drive, but ride was not that comfortable and I had to pay an extra of Rs. 3600 on set of 4 tyres.
Alloys costed Rs. 15,500.
Also, have upgraded my ICE in DZire.
HU: Stock (as of now!!! Planning on EXAD series, but in a couple of months)
Front: JBL Power series P660C 6-1/2″ 2-Way Component System in doors – Rs. 10500/-
Rear: Pioneer 400 watts Oval 4 way speakers (in tray) – Rs. 2850/-
Sub: Kenwood 12″ sub (was already with me, costed Rs. 3200/- 5 years ago)
Amp: 4 Channel Blaupunkt (Forgot the model no.) – Rs. 5500/-
Sub BOX: Made of MDF board with black matching carpet all around. – Rs. 500
Wiring: JBL Original wiring – Rs. 2600/-
One speaker level input attached to the HU – Rs. 250
I am satisfied with the performance. I today attached one old pioneer MP3 HU, and the difference in performance was quite noticeable. I will upgrade the HU in a couple of months.
Attached are a few pictures. Waiting for comments. (please note that, I changed the alloys twice, a couple of pictures of old alloy wheels is there as well. I changed the alloys after 1 week, as i found the current ones on my car better than old ones).
Update 20000Kms
Car has done around 20000 Kms so far.
No issues with suspension.
FE is around 18.5-19 in city and 21-22 on highways.
A friend of mine even managed 25+ on highways on his DZire.
About the rattles, yes it does and a lot.
Theres a noise coming from the dashboard, like a screw is stuck somewhere and vibrating.
Some noise coming from the rear left, probably from rear bumper.
BTW, Swift/DZire has pretty bad bumper locks. The moment you open up the bumper atleast 2-3 locks would be broken.
Have talked to different guys at MASS, but it has not been sorted out yet.
The front seat recliner is not working.
It wont pull the seat back up.
Visited MASS, they say it wont be covered under warranty and they dont even have it in stock.
Will talk to maruti directly about this.
Car was involved twice in minor accidents. Paint quality is pretty bad, paint is coming off around edges. Done at MASS.Not really a satisfactory experience at MASS.
I have upgraded to Yokohama 195/60-R15 A-Drives and alloy wheels. Car feels much more planted and in control now.
Build quality of the car is pretty poor, especially the boot. Plastics on dashboard are of very poor quality.
ICE is very basic. I plan to upgrade it soon. Would like to keep the integrated HU, attach an amp and comps.Overall experience has been satisfactory. I knew about the build quality of car before buying, so……
No problems in car otherwise. Engine, gearbox all good.
Turbo rush is to die for.
You get used to the turbo after driving it for a while. I don’t feel any turbo lag now.I dont like the overall look of the car.
Many people think that its back is pretty bad, which i find good (saving grace of the car). What i dont like is the side profile of the car. Its not proportionate.
I would been better off with swift, but needed boot.
The car has covered 45000 kms so far. Will soon update the blog post.

I exchanged the tires from some other tyre shop. Maruti dealerships don’t offer tyre upgrade.
As for the color, its a matter of personal choice. I personally dont like the clear beige color. Its last on my choice of colors in DZire.
Color choices in my preference:
Silver
White
Dark Blue
Red
Black
Azure Grey
Clear Beige
KK, Beige color would definitely be the last on my list as well. Being a proud owner of a white dzire, i will rank White as number one closely followed by silver. Next comes Red, Blue, Black and Azure Grey.

Whoops….Actually my options were either Beige or Silky Silver.I actually waited for sometime to the see DZire in both colours, but my Maruti agent couldn’t arrange it form me and couldn’t see any on road (kerala) and the damn waiting period jumped from 3 months to 5 months. Finaly opted for Beige as I’v seen Ford Ikon in Beige colour and like that very much. Can you guys help me please. Kindly advise, is the DZire Beige different than Ford Beige.

KK, Ford Beige is slightly better than that of Dzire! Anyways, it’s not that Dzire looks bad in Beige color, it’s just that it looks better in rest 6 colors. You should be fine!

A: If you upgrade the tyres before taking the delivery, I assume that it would be done at maruti showroom, which is not advisable, they will charge you more for the same product available cheaper outside. I would advice to upgrade the tyres from any reputed shop immediately after taking the delivery.
Q: which brand is better?
A: Best brand would be Michelin. Yokohama is very good as well. Yokos would be a cheaper than Michelin. If you have the budget, go for Michelin. Bridgestone would be ranked 3rd.

A: Yes, ride quality would be much much better. Stock tyres are good for nothing. It is advisable to upgrade them ASAP. 185/70/R14 is the perfect size for upgrade if you do not want to go for alloys.
195/60 R15 is a good size if you want to go in for 15″ alloy wheels.
I myself have upgraded to 15″ alloy wheels with Yokohama A-Drive 195/60 R15

The car is doing really well.
I have done around 24000 Kms so far.
I am getting average of 17-18 in city and 21-23 on highway.
There are a few issues.
Car rattles.
Bumper locks are very fragile.
You will to spend some time to get used to the turbo lag.
Front driver seat recliner does not work anymore.
These are a few small issues.
All in all, I would recommend this car. Its an excellent VFM and a good family car.

There is hardly any difference in mileage even with 195/60 R15, I am running he same tyres with alloys.
Integrated music system is strictly OK. Nothing great.

You will find the ideal pressure for this tyre on the driver side pillar, visible when you open the door. I think its 32 psi in front and 30 psi in back.

Yes, its ok, only if you go for good brand.

Garware Icecool Sheild should cost you around Rs. 2800. Its a budget solution.
Llumar also makes sunfilms, but nto many reviews available.
3M CR-70, should cost you Rs.5500 + installation charges (Rs. 5800 approx.)
V-kool is the Best, but expensive (Rs.9500-10,000)
For your budget, I wold suggest you to go ahead with 3M CR-70.

A: You can go for 195/60 R15, these would be 15″ rims. You can find the alloys in range of 14000-20000. Branded alloys would be in upper range (17k-20K).
I would recommend you Yokohama tyres, 15″ tyre should cost you around 4000 per tyre, your original tyres would be bought back @ Rs. 1000 per tyre.
OR
You can go for 185/70-R14. These are 14″ rims. Alloys should be in range of 13k-18k.
Tyre should be around 3000 per tyre.
If you want to upgrade to 15″ alloy wheels, they will be fine. I am using the same.
You will find more design/choices in 15″.

A: I am using reverse parking sensors without camera. They are made by XENOS. I am satisfied with them.

Local sunfilms for side and rear glasses should cost around Rs. 500. You can get Garware suncontrol for around Rs. 700.
If you want to go for front windshield filming, I would suggest only go for a good brand. But, they are expensive.

A: VDi should give you excellent mileage. You should keep an eye on RPM meter. If you can manage to keep the rpm levels below 2000 and shift to 5th gear at speed of 60, you will get around 19 in city and 22-25 on highway with a/c.

and how are the interiors cos in zdi standin near my office haz a rich beige interiors where as the vxi models having an ugly gray interiors including the rear speaker panels which makes me upset

i now own a dzire vdi. i want to share some of my experience-
It doesnt have EBD(unlike Zdi) if u want to confirm.
It doesnt perform well on very bad roads.(I have a stretch of 1km to drive daily-being reconstructed).Has some metallic screeching sound from somewhere rear end. but couldnt trace it even after first service.
Thirdly the tyres coming with Vdi are JK 165/70R14.I have heard that car doesnt feel stable in high speeds with these.I changed them right away to yokohama A drives right on day of delivery. I have no experience with stock tyres.But new ones are good. no stability issues at any speed.
Interiors are ok with me. you can put beige seat covers if u like them that way.
But on positive side Engine is very refined diesel one. pull is good.Road handling, steering r good. breaking is just fine.and on good roads drive is very enjoyable. Overall I would say VDi too is a good value for money.

I have no ideas whether u really require tyre upgrades for VDi Dzire-I didnt want to take risk and after reading experience of majority of owners who changed them later, I changed them rightaway on day of delivery.New tyres r very good (yokohama A-drives 185/70R14).
Alloy wheels-lighter than steel,so some theoritical improvement in mileage. secondly they dont bend that easily as steel. so better for tubeless tyres (air doesnt escape) I cant imagine any further advantages. I am using new tyres on stock rims. no issues so far.
Definitely driving with half clutch for long time is not good for clutch as far as my knowledge goes.
Maintenance difference is supposed to be marginal. I paid Rs 750 for my first service which included engine oil replacement. But i have heard from my service engineer that some other parts like air filter are significantly more expensive. (but i think difference in fuel cost and mileage should neutralise differences)

As srikant already confirmed, the VDi model does not come with EBD.
As for the beige interiors, you can put in the beige seat covers, but they dont go well with the grey interiors.
As for the ZDi, there is no beige in the dashboard, there are a few beige inserts in the doors and maybe the rear parcel tray.
Nothing major. If you saw a DZire with complete beige interiors, then they might be custom. You can paint the dashboard in beige color. I have seen it on some DZires.
Not to my taste though, hard to maintain and quality of aftermarket job is not that good usually.

I would say that the tyre change is must. The stock tyres are really pathetic. Go for atleast 185/70 R14 or 195/60 R15.
And go for some good brand. Michelin are best (but, expensive), Yokohama are good best bang for the buck.
Alloys, (if going for a good brand) are actually lighter than the actual rims. Here are few points in favor of alloys:
1) Alloys dissipate heat faster, better braking as a result.
2) Alloys are much lighter, lowers unsprung weight, better performance as a result.
3) Alloys don’t easily bend like steel rims, therefore a much better choice with tubeless.
4) Looks really good. Gives you some exclusivity.
So, its not purely cosmetic my friend.
Driving with a foot on clutch is never a good idea. You should try and avoid it as much as possible.
DZire VDi has a dream engine. Its peppy, has good high end, good torque and gives excellent FE.
Maintenance costs are a little more than that of a petrol engine.
First three service were nothing major.
20000 Kms service costed me around Rs. 4500.
Filters and oil are expensive.
Except from regular servicing, no costs otherwise.

Congratulations on your new car.
The music system in DZire does not come with a USB Port.
And I am afraid there is no way to add a USB port to that music system.
However, it does come with a AUX port.
You can hook up your iPod through the AUX cable.
I would like to share some of my additional experiences- my dzire Vdi has run 1500kms now.Recently I drove 130 kms of ghat roads to a hill station with some portions of road steeply climbing up with hairpin bends with 4 adults and a child(incl me). car pulls really well if RPM is>1500. its sluggish if rpm is less than that.Breaking had no issues(possibly due to changed tyres?)Car handled very well and very stable(possibly also because of my safe driving habits too) but at the end came surprise.by tankful to tankful method,mileage for last 530kms including this drive+highways is amazing 21.4kms/L

If you notice more carefully, the sudden surge of power is after 2000 RPM. Its because the Turbo Charger gets activated after 2000 RPM.
The turbo rush is great. Some people call it turbo lag as well (for the reason, no real power below 2000 RPM). But, after driving the car for a while you will get used to the turbo and there wouldn’t be any lag.
And, yes, you are right about the average.
A friend of mine got 24.8 kmpl (highway only).
I am usually pushing the cars to limits, so u get around 19 kmpl on highway and 16-17 in city.
I have these doubts-
My Dzire Vdi is 1500Kms old now.All this time I was avoiding RPMs>2000 as the smooth engine sound became harsh once it approached rpms of 1800 and above in I to III gears with no significant further increase in pull. I have also read that after 1K kms I should train engine for higher rpms as well and they say turbo kicks in only after 2K rpms.So as a part of proper breaking in of a new engine, what should be the rpm range i should try now? and in which gears? Please guide

I am planning to buy a Dzire Vdi,I have heard that the leg room in the rear is very less, is that true, and I would also like to know how the car compares with the indigo CS, I know the cars are different pricewise, but the indigo CS also has similar specs in terms of performance, and the fully loaded version of the indigo CS is about a lac cheaper than the DZire,for me value for money would be the first criteria, so which one would be the best car in terms of value for money

I would recommend to keep the RPM below 2000 and speed below 60 for first 1000 Km.
As for the gear ratio, i have never noticed it. I change it by instinct. Just hear the sound of engine and you will know when it is time to change gear.

Michelin tyres are the best, but you have chosen the wrong size.
You have to go for 205/55 – R15 or 205/50 – R15.
60 is a wrong profile.
Notice that although 50 profile tyre would look good, but would make a ride a little harsh. They will make sure you feel every stone on the road.
Go for LENSO alloys. LENSO has fantastic range. I love the SAMURAI series in LENSO.
Try them.
Chrome would not look good of silky silver DZire. Either go for Hyper Silver or go for a combination of black alloys with silver/chrome lip.
Also, all chrome alloys a re more proone to scratches.

Go for DZire VDi. Its a much better car overall. Engine is great, and lighter on your pocket as well.
If you do not need the boot, then go for swift VDi, it would cost you same as CS.

If u r of average height and another avg height person sits besides u while u drive, backseat legroom is quite sufficient. I think if u r more than 6ft then person behind u may feel legspace is slightly less. But for avg height person like me, this was never an issue as i myself drive it always. Recently i drove 160kms with a 6+ft person in backseat with no discomfort at all. But regarding whether legspace is less or sufficient, u should take a test drive and sit in backseat for some time while ur friend or sales person drives it. though i dont have much experience comparing it with indigo, i think the engine is superior and a later generation diesel engine which got an international award, has lower NVH and a good fuel economy.

They have some tailormade covers for DZire. Should cost somewhere between 4.5-6k.

They are a little expensive than AUTOFORM.
They should cost you around 11k.
Ask around good car accessory dealers in Chennai, you will find any of the three brands.

Make sure your alloys have a offset ratio of 42 and above and you mount your tyres on 6J rims.

Yes, the Yokohama 195/60 R15 A-Drive should cost you around 4k per tyre and the buy back rate for the stock DZIre tyre is Rs. 1000 per tyre, if you are lucky you might get a MAX of Rs. 1250 per tyre.
The stock steel rims would go for anywhere between Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000.
Experience with the alloys and tyres has been very good. Tyre upgrade is a must. There is a huge difference in performance of stock tyres and the upgraded tyres.
My alloys are not of any reputed brand. I liked the design and went for it. They are some imported Korean rims.
Not much details were given regarding the offset ratio. But they fitted perfectly.
After upgrading the tyres, ride might become slightly harsh, but not bad. But the grip and confidence you get with these tyres is amazing. You can jump into any turn with confidence, which the stock JKs never gave.
As i mentioned in my last comment:
Make sure your alloys have a offset ratio of 42 and above and you mount your tyres on 6J rims.
Also, if you go for a good brand like LENSO, they have alloys made particularly for the cars.
You wont have to worry.
For me alloys were a must on DZire, since there are so many DZires on the road, i needed some exclusivity.

Yesterday i thought of getting a mahindra logan edge 1.4 glx(petrol) which is 5.5 lcs and i found quite attractive with some features..but the price is too high for a petrol engine and i just compared with dzire vdi which is just 20-30k more, so my mind changed, why shd i spend more on petrol when diesel has more resale value and ofcourse maruti even better..
Now im totally convinced to go for dzire but still i cant get logan edge off my head bcoz of its incredible space inside the car and the leather upholstery.my family has 6 members totally, my questions are

Going for DZire is the right decision. You wont enjoy the resale value with logan. That car didn’t hit the right cords with Indian people.
DZire’s diesel engine is just best in the class. Good power and great FE.
Everyone has different prospective regarding looks, but i dont like how logan looks. Not that DZire is a looker, but its better.
Here are your queries answered:
1)Can the dzire rear seat hold 3 persons comfortably? if so one more person can be able to cramp inside on top of them?
A: It can seat three persons in rear seat. I am not too sure about the comfortable part. And you should not try to squeeze in 4 in rear seat. Its not comfortable and is very risky. Why dont you take a test drive and try the rear seat.

A: Boot space on dzire is huge. You can easily put in a 12″ sub with a lots of room left. Rear speakers are present in DZire VDi model. But, the stock system is just crap, the HU and the speakers.

A: I think 100kms should not be a problem.
To be sure, just talk to someone in a lcoal tyre shop. But, trust me, the car is very much under-tyred. You need to upgrade the tyres. Take my word.

A: Interiors of DZire a pretty plain, but better than logan.
5)Which color will look good and sporty (im planning to put a spoiler on it), I saw a blue color which shines, Is tht metallic blue or just normal one?
A: Here is my personal preference in colors:
1. Blue
2. Black (High maintenance)
3. Silver
4. White
5. Red
6. Azure Grey
7. Clear Beige
Blue color is the best. Go for it. Looks sporty.
My preferences changed over time.
White and silver are so common, i repent going for the silver color now.
If I had to pick a color again, I would go for Blue.
One quick question..My brother-in-law just called me up and told that his friend booked a dzire vdi last week and paid an extra commision of 15k to get it on sep-10th..now he decides to go on fiat linea and wanted to cancel the booking, thts whr my brother in law asked abt my decision on logan/dzire and he offered whther he wanted the dzire he booked…Im totally confused now, will tht extra 15 k is worth really? is it taking 4-6 mnths nowadays? pls help me..
Well, its really upto you.
If you want to spend 15k for getting the car early.
If oyu already had a car, i would say its nto worth it.
Since this is your first car.
If you can manage 3-4 months without a car, i would suggest wait.
But, i know, its really hard to wait for a new car, specially if its your first.

1. VDi model comes with front and rear speakers.
2. Speakers and HU is of NIPPON. HU’s model number is NSCR – 02.
Speakers are pretty basic, all 4 speakers are 5 or 6″ . The HU has one in-dash cd/MP3 player. Comes with AUX in. Thats about it. It has only 1 pre-out.
3. Ofcourse, you can add a amplifier and a sub. But, do not expect and thunderous performance. HU is pretty weak. You wont get that “depth” in the bass with current HU and nor the clarity in speakers, as speakers are pretty basic as well. Upgrading HU is the first thing to do.
Although, I added components, sub and amp and still have not upgraded the HU. I liked the stock look.
I will upgrade the HU soon.
4. 10″ or 12″ is diameter of the sub. The bigger the size, bigger the thump. Again, you will need a good HU.
Ok Ive also decided to upgrade ICE after a month frm the delivery, I mostly hear hiphop songs, So to get that thunderous bass effect im ready to spend from 25-30k,
Can you pls give me specific list of HU + speakers + Amp + Sub etc… which will fit in 30k?

Kenwood makes some good HUs. Pioneer is also a good brand. Make sure that HU has atleast 2 pre-outs. 3 preouts are better. If you want to go for components, go for JBL or Hertz.
You should go for a JBL woofer. TBHP will approve accounts automatically. I cannot do anything in that case.

First service was completely free. They did a general checkup and washing.
2nd Service costed around 500. Oil topup and washing.
3rd service costed at 10000 kms costed around 1500.
4th service had oil change, filter and few other things. It costed Rs. 4800
The other color you have seen must be AZUREY GREY, its greyish blueish kind of color. Dark blue shade is much much better.

15″ tyres look better as the profile goes a little low and you have better option in designs of alloy wheels.
I would not recommend going in for 16″ and 17″ alloys. They would definitely compromise the ride quality, as the profile would be lower. You will feel every stone and bump on the road, also suspension would take toll. If you are ready to compromise, go for it. They look wicked

There is not much difference in performance. I would say Michelin are better than Yokohama if you go for same specs in both. Since Yokohama is 15″ and 195 section, they provide better grip than 185 section Michelin. But if you compare 195/60 r15 IN BOTH MICHELIN AND YOKOHAMA, I WOULD SAY MICHELIN IS BETTER.

Hi sumit, After reading thru many reviews and considering the family size i cancelled the dzire today and was fully convinced to go to New scorpio LX (basic model 2009), it costs 8.34 on road which is 2 lacs far away frm my budget, but still the size and the engine power made me to go for it, im 6 ft tall so it shd fit me perfectly, Since you also own a scorpio can you pls shed some lights?
1)How much mileage you are getting in city/highways?
2)Does scorpio give maintenance problems very often even if it didnt run too much?

This is urgent.
My dealer told me that if I upgrade to the 15″ Tyre I may loose warranty; also it will increase weight and hence reduced average.
So I decided to change tyre of Yokohama/Michelin but R14 only. Now can you suggest good tiers and alloy wheels in 14″ range.
Also tell me what do you mean by profile going down or up when you change the tyre size.
Please reply asap as I will doing this on Saturday 12 Sept.

But, DZire ZDi already comes with 185/70 R14
They come with JK or GOODYEAR i think.

3. My showroom person is giving me Teflon coating at free of cost so is there any problem with having tefflon coat.As I stay in very rainy, humid and hot temp area.

MRF’s are still better than JK. But, the main problem is tyre size, which would be the same.
I would recommend to go for 185/70-R14 in 14″ or 195/60-R15 in 15″.
Either go in for Michelin or Yokohama.
1. ACC cannot be fittd into the car, it has to come factory fitted.
2. Height adjustment is not possible as well.
3. Teflon coating is not really worth the money, specially if you stay in a area where it rains a lot or has a humid weather. After getting a teflon coating you will notice extra shine and all small scratches would disappear. But its only good for 3 months (in rainy area), 6 months otherwise.
I would recommend you to get a good turtle wax and wax your car once a month. It would give you same shine as teflon coating and would cost much less.
I had a palio, I got the teflon coating on it. Not much noticeable after a few months.
If you are getting it for free, ask the dealer to give you something else as free.

As far as I know, rear wiper cannot be fitted on a DZire.
It would require a hole in rear windsheild.

Well I havent seen any engine coating but my dealer told me that they will give coat of some special white paint to all engine parts include electrical wiring.
As far as underbody coating is considered you are talking about anirust coating? I have also done antirust coating.
Very sad that rear whipers can not be fitted! VDI also dont have ACC to clear the rear glass.

First of all thanks for the great review of the Dzire VDi model. I wish, I could find similar review on Dzire ZXi model. I have gone through you review as well as lot of comments and quesitons from lot of folks. I’m planning to buy a Dzire Zxi version (my first car) but after reading the FE of diesel engine, I am wondering whether i’m making a right choice and started thinking about Zdi model which is bit costlier than Zxi. My basic requirements are as follows and will apprecite if you can shed some lights from your best of experience:
- Safety and comfort level for all 5 passengers
- On weekdays limited use of car in city and planning weekend trips with family of 5, but expect monthly travel would be below 1000KM. And couple of times a year may have more travel due to native place visits.
- Fuel efficiency with our traveling expectation as mentioned above
- Lower maintainance cost
- Good Resale value of the car after 3-5 years
Kindly suggest if it is worth spending extra bucks on Zdi with above requirements of mine.

I suggest you to go for VDI (cost is same as Zxi). You willb every happy with the FE (Trust us its going to be above 18-20 when you have worst driving. and diesel cost is also Rs. 36/lit)
Petrol vehical will never give you above 15-17. In city petrol will always give you less that 12.
If you really have money and not going to go by loan then go for ZDi. The good ponit in Zdi or Zxi are ACC and ABS.

Airbags in ZDi and Zxi are only for front passengers and they work when you hit the vehical in certain angle; so ………
Zdi and Zxi also has the hight adjustabale seats which is good feature.
Ask your dealer if he can give you Vdi with ACC, ABS and Height adjustable seats.

* If you really want to enjoy driving as pleasure or passion then dont think of Dielsel any model (even BMW). After you start enjoying driving you will start hating Dielel (even BMW or Skoda)

I am not planning to take any loan, but will appreciate the excel file you mentioned below for the knowledge and definitely the fuel economy details will be handy.
My main concern is, we will be able to drive car most often as I am most of the time out of India and buying car mainly for my bro and dad, so expecting maximum 1000KM every month. I heard, to enjoy diesel economy we need to have maximum travel at least 50-80KM per day. Also, if car is not driven for long time it causes problem. In my case, there will some weeks/months when car will stay in parking lot for long time. So do you think Diesel is still worth checking out.

If your monthly running is around 1000 Km, I would suggest that you go in for petrol version.
Try to work around the figures. You will be paying almost 1 lac more for diesel model. Would you be able to cover that with your running in 5 years?
If you average yearly running is between 20k-25k, I would recommend to go in for diesel.
ZXi or ZDi are worth the price you pay for. You get Airbags, ABS with EBD, alloy wheels, wider tyres, automatic climate control, better interiors, defogger. Most of these things cannot be fitted from outside.
I recently took a test drive of FIAT Punto. Its a great car. Level of equipment is mind blowing. Give it a try as well. Check out the top model, Emotion+ Pack. Its a great looking Italian beauty.
If I had a choice today, I will go in for a punto.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yourt comments giving me more confidence in ZXi model considering my needs, but will do more calculations over running vs. fuel costs for Petrol/Disel, Sobodh’s excel temple will help.
As you suggested I had quick look at Punto and still like to stick with Dzire because:
1. It’s Fiat and had read some bad reviews about Fiat’s after sale service. Maruti service is most of the time hassle free.
2. Punto still a hatchback model, would prefer Sedan look with Dzire, which is within my budget without any loan.

Since your car is VDi, it comes with central locking and anti-theft security system iCats.
iCats is pretty good, it cant be broken into. Its a record.
You can go to any maruti dealership and ask them to adjust the sensitivity of iCats to the highest. (if its not there already!!!).
You can go in for XENOS reverse parking sensors, they are the best.

1)When the engine rpm crosses say 1800 or more (especially at lower gears ),the engine SOUND turns little harsh. IS IT NORMAL AND due to what?. iS TO DUE TO TURBO CHARGER?.

You will hear more grunt from the engine after 1800 RPM. Its because of the turbo. But its not harsh. I would advice t o get it checked.
Get the brakes checked as well. My brakes always created some noise when applied suddenly. The problem has not yet been sorted out.
Get it checked. Try to drive another DZire VDi and see if its any different.
You can try their test drive vehicle.

There is no speed limit after which turbo charger works.
It starts around 1800 RPM, you will notice the difference after 1800rpm.
Anything between 60 and 100 would give you good average. Average mainly depends on how often you change gears, sudden braking etc.
When you are on a highway, you dont change gears. You mostly drive in 5th gear with a consistent speed and less braking. Thats why you get better average on highways.

In the delivery check list given by the dealer it was mentioned that for better fuel efficeincy, we have to shift the gears at the following speeds
1 to 2 @10kmph
2 to 3 @ 20kmph
3 to 4 @ 30kmph and
4 to 5th @40kmph
This shifting speeds seem to be too low and I doubt whether this will labour the engine?. Is this advisable especially during the running -in period. The referred pamhlet looks to be printed by maruti itself and is mentioned generally for all class of maruti vehicles. Is this applicable for dzire Vdi also?. If so what is the recommeded speeds for gear shift. any maruti web site?

I have never really noticed the speeds at which i change gears.
You can feel when the gear change is required.
The list that you provided might give out good fuel efficiency, bbut it would really strain the engine.
I would not recommend these.

Interiors and Exterior are a personal choice. I find interiors in manza better than DZire.
Manza is using same engine as DZire, but its tuned to produce 90bhp (same as in linea).
I am not sure about driving comfort, cause i have not driven the Manza yet.
Music system in DZire can be removed. There is a Facia available which can be fitted on dashboard after removing the music system. It would give you a space for a double din stereo, same as it comes in SWIFT.
I drive pretty fast, i havent had any problems with brakes.
Brakes sometimes makes noise when applied suddenly at high speeds. But no problem as such.
If you are concerned, you can go in for ZDi model, which comes with ABS and EBD.

I would suggest you go in for AUTOCOP.
There are a lots of mdoels to choose from. Check their features.
Basic autocop products start from around 3000 and go upto 15000 which are GSM based central locking.
GSM central locking will help you unlock car from anywhere in the world. But its costs a SMS to lock/unlock the car.
A SIM card is inserted in the car, through which you interact.
GSM based central locking helps you track your car in case of theft. You can also listen to the conversations of people inside the car after theft.
It also gives you an option to shut off the engine and lock the car after it is stolen.

Petrol DZIre are available within 1-2 months of booking.
Now with December end schemes, DZire VXi should be available within 15 days.

I have completed 3 months of my DZire VDI with around 4500 km of running.
Here are the problems,
1. Some noise coming from the dash board from right behind the steering wheel.
2. Similar vibrating noise coming from the roof; right side of the front roof lamp.
3. When I drive it on rough roads even at 30-40 Kmph I head lot of vibration from whole car giving me the feeling that every nut and bolt is loose.
I talked about first 2 problems with service center but no satisfactory answers provided; they said we will check it in servicing only.
Is the common problem of those old diesel vehicle; lots of vibrations?
Anyways decided to 2nd servicing right now before waiting for 5K running to complete.
What should be changed and what should not be changed in second servicing? Sometimes dealer force you to change something which is really not necessary. I have changed oil in first servicing; is oil change necessary again?
How about changing oil filter and air filter; is it required?
And last but not least; yes you were right; changing tyre to something like Michieline or Yokohama 195/80 R15 is really necessary especially when you drive @ around 100Kmph always.

1. Here is the list of good brands. First one being the best:
- Michelin
- Yokohama
- Bridgestone
- Apollo
2. XENOS
3. If you are looking for a resonable priced sunfilm, go for garware. Otherwise, V-Kool and 3M are very good. But they are bit on higher side. Garware should cost you between 700-850. V-Kool or 3M would be between 2500-3500.
4. You can go in for Alloy wheels, better speakers, seat covers etc. There is no limit really.

1. You can go for Michelin Primacy LC. They are a bit expensive, but good rubber, excellent grip and very very silent on the road. Michelin XM1+ are equally good as well, they are cheaper than Primacy LC.
2. If you do not mind changing the the integrated look of audio system, I would suggest changing it. As stock system is very poor.
If you want to change the audio, I would suggest change both the head unit (audio) and the speakers. Changing speakers alone would not help and the audio unit on DZire is very much below average.
Do not sell the original audio system, retain it. It would help when you are selling the car.
You can go in for music system from Pioneer (with USB) with atleast 3 pre-outs. Amplifier from JBL or Blaupunkt. Infinity front components and Infinity rear speakers as well.

The difference between LC and XM1+ sized 195/60-R15 wouldn’t be much. Around Rs. 200.

The Black color (or any dark color for that matter) is high maintenance in terms of maintaining the car clean and free of scratches.
Small scratches appear more prominent on black colored cars.
You can drive carefully to avoid small scratches.
Use TURTLE WAX to keep the car shiny. Wash it regularly.

My first servicing is done yesterday. they charged me around 1100 bugs for 3.5 ltr oil change & Oil filter change. do they have to change oil filter in first servicing ? is first servicing is not totally free ? when i enquired couple of friends, they informed only oil change of 2.5 or 2.9 lts and they charged around 680 rs?
please can you brief what to be done on first servicing.

In my first service they did not change any oil or oil filter.
They topped up the oil and charged Rs. 100 or something.

How to get rid of this scratches ? Is buffing will do ? i am planning to do the teflon coating in couple of days. is Teflon coating will disappear scratches ? Teflon coating through machine is better or hand made is better? please suggest.

Buffing/Rubbing will remove the scratches if they are not deep enough. Same with the Teflon coating as well.
If the paint is scratched, then only a paint job can help you.

My friend got teflon coating done for Rs. 1000.
Just make sure they use 3M material for teflon coating. Machines are all same, no specific machine. Its the same machine used for buffing.

If you have deep scratches, the only solution in paint job.
Painting standards can never be matched with factory product. It can come close, but not that good.
Try to find out which is best workshop in your area and get your car painted.

i’ve booked a swift dzire zdi a few months back and it’ll be delivered to me soon. The question i wanted to ask is that the tyre size which i’m getting in the zdi model is sufficeint or do i need to get them changed, secondly the audio system being provided in dzire i heard is not very effective in terms of bass so is it possible that i don’t change the system and install a bass tube with an amplifier which i was using in my old car. I’ve the jbl bass tube 1100w with an amplifier from alpine. So my question basically here is that will i get the same output i used to get with my sony system or do i need to get the system changed and lastly is the pickup same in dzire as swift vdi.

I am looking to buy a zdi. just started thinking about the Airbag option. Well how sensitive are these anyway. Driving around some one is bound to bump you . Just dont want the hassle of getting NEW airbags. I know when I was in the US this costed a whole lot of money. Not sure how bad it is here.

Tyre size on ZDi is sufficient. If you want to fir aftermarket alloys, you can go in for something in 15″ (195/60-R15).
Yes, you can fit an amplifier, bass tube and speakers. The problem with stock system is that it only has one pre-out. You will need to install one speaker level input to get 4 speakers and bass tube working. DO not expect same results as your old system. The music system on Dzire is pretty poor/basic. Pionner/Kenwood aftermarket music systems sound atleast 5 times better than stock DZire system.

A normal jerk wont let off the airbag. Some kind of heavy impact would be required to inflate airbag. Yes, it does cost money to replace them, the whole steering and dashboard needs to be changed after airbag is used. Cost of Airbag = Cost of you and your loved one’s life. You decide!!

K-Series does give excellent mileage, but diesel give better mileage. New K-Series would actually give you around 15-16kmpl in city.
+ Diesel is cheaper than petrol and gives better mileage. If your running is close to or more than 2000 kms a month, go for diesel.

I hope i am making the right choice. Went in India buy only Indian APna motto. Maruti wont be producing their own diesel engines.
Currently DZire, Swift, Ritz all have FIAT engines.
Maruti is soon doing tie-up with VW for diesel engines, since VW has bought 20% stake in maruti.
And trust me, FIAT engines are a lot better than Maruti engines.
They have the punch and great FE, a killer combo.
FIAT 1.3 Multijet engine is the national engine of India. It comes in lots of cars:
1. Maruti Swift
2. Maruti DZire
3. Maruti Ritz
4. FIAT Palio
5. FIAT Punto
6. FIAT Linea
7. Indica Vista Quadrajet

Reverse parking sensors are good enough i think.
Try them out first, if you are not satisfied with them get the cam installed as well.
Go for XENOS parking sensors. They are decent.
Heyy Sumit….your car is really nice….Its the first DZire i had seen with after mkt Alloys and is only inspiration for me to customize my ride….Okey now to the topic….I m frm Mumbai and I or you can say(my dad)owns DZire VDi Silky Silver (same as urs) OCT2008 model….the car has clocked some 33k+ or so in the stock rims 165/80/14….I want to upgrade the tyres to 15inches with 195 or 205 width….My dad does not bother anything about spending extra on the car and he is against alloy wheels(since he does not care about the looks but only I do:-)…)and seeing the condition of the tyres he has finally agreed(or you can say I have convinced him) to change the tyres b4 monsoons….so I want to put these 15inchers on stock steel rims of some other car (eg-indigo manza or the corolla steel rims or hondacity steel rims latest one..)so can you please suggest me which car’s stock rims should I go for and what tyre size and brand should i go for(Later the car is expectd to come in my hands and I will be spending my savings on Alloys then)….And yes the main thing currently the car will be 90-95% driven by my dad and rest 5-10% by me….the car runs around 80% on highways and city type road condition and 20% on very bad roads with potholes…thanx..

I would suggest you try and find SX4 rims. They would be best suited for the DZire.
Regarding the tyre, I would suggest 195/60-R15. Ride would be a little bit bumpy than 165/80/R14, but grips levels would be generations ahead.
I would not suggest going in for 205 section rubber, cause then you will have to go for 50 or 55 profile. And ride will be very harsh with these lower profiles.
195/60-R15 is the best upgrade in terms of grip and looks, while not compromising so much on ride quality.

Alloys in my car are not of any particular brand. They are made in Taiwan.
Costed me 14000 for set of 4.
You can go to any Alloys/Tyre shop and they will swap your current rims with alloy wheels.
If you want to go in 15″, you would be required to upgrade your tyres as well.
If you want to go in for branded alloys (Which I would recommend). I would suggest
HRS – Cheap, not too many designs available. Lots of fakes in market.
LENSO – Medium range (18k for set of 4), very good designs.
KONIG – Little expensive (20-21k for set of 4). Very good designs.
OZ – EXPENSIVE
BBS – EXPENSIVE

Nut, I would recommend to use SYNTHETIC Engine oil. Mobil1 is the best.

Warranty period on A-Drives is 1 year. And it will not cover accidental damages or usual wear and tear.
Warranty is valid for defects and deformity which is not caused by any accidents.
Dont worry about FE. With 185/70-R14 you are sticking to stock size.
I use 195/60-R15 and still I do not think there is any difference in FE when compared to stock tyre setup.

It has been around 8 months after getting my DZire VD White Color and I ran 11,600 Km.
There has been few scratches on body and some dirty color spots. Shown it to workshop and they say after tefloan coating it will be gone. Actualy they do light polish before teflon coating; so in that polish all color becomes rough and after coat it becomes soomth and shiny.
At workshop it charges me Rs. 3200 and the same persome does it outside @ Rs. 1700. The teflon guy said that it will remain in good condition for 6 months to 1 year and probably you have to do it every year.
I stay near see, heavy rains and as hot as 32-38 degrees.
What do you advise?

Teflon coating helps with small scratches, but it gets dirty relatively fast.
If you live in coastal area, I would also recommend underbody rust treatment. That should be your first priority.

You cannot fit my kind of alloys in your stock tyres.
My alloys are 15″ and stock tyres are 14″.
If you dont want to upgrade, you can go for 14″ alloys.
But I would recommend to upgrade the tyres since they are not that adequate for the speeds that car is capable of.
You should go for 180/70-R14 and if oyu want to go in for 15″ upgrade to 195/60-R15.
There are many good bands like LENSO, HRS, NEO, KONIG, OZ etc.
I cannot help you locate the shop since I do not know where you live.
I have no experience with gear lock, but yes, it does require some drilling.
You can always apply some anti-corrosion material where you drill the hole.

I have Dzire LDi purchased in May,2008 and 30600 KMs done till date.
Overall experience is fine but my problem is with the breaking.
Today I met with an accident which damaged my front bumper and lamp, this has happened bcoz of my breaks. I was just in a speed of 60-70 overtaking another car, suddenly a bike fellow came and I applied breaks but my vehicle skidded upto 10meters after that stopped.
After all conversations I gone through I came to understand that I have to change my tyres to overcome this type of issues.
My question is
1) Can I change only my types, if yes which company is the best one and the size?
2) should I have to change the tyres and also alloys, if yes which size?
3) If I change only tyres what would the breaking performance increases?
4) If I change with allow would it affect on the mileage of the vehicle?
Please let me know the perfect way how to get my breaks rectified with out affecting the performance and the mileage of the vehicle.

Please upgrade your tyres. More than brakes, your tyres are to blame.

Get your brake oil check and more importantly, get the brake pads checked. If there is too much wear and tear on the brake pads, get them changed. It would set you back by Rs. 1600 from Maruti Authorised Service center.

Before shifting to Ykohama A0Drive on 15 inches (195/60-R15), I was on Michelin XM1+ (185/70-R14) and faced no problems whatsoever.
I would suggest you to go for Michelin Primacy LC instead of XM1+. They are much better than XM1+ and at the same price too.

Yes, your xplod speakers and amp will work on Kenwood.
But, Sony makes the most crap speakers for cars.
I would suggest:
1. Get components for the front.
You can go for Infinity Reference series or Rainbow or Illusion Electra 6.1
Get coaxials for rear. Something like JBL GTO638.
Go for a JBL or BULL Audio amp.
If you are getting 14×5.5j alloys, then 185/70 R14 will fit comfortable. If you are getting 14x6j, then better you go for 195/65 R14.
Putting 15″ alloys and tyres will not cause any problems and it will look a lot better.

just got delivery of my new silky silver dzire vdi. after reading the above comments, plan to change the good year tyres for michelin. shockingly, the rear left side power window switch just went inside, after a few hours. the guys at the dealer say that it was an improper fitting after the anti rust treatment was done. one went to the extent of saying that if the switch is pressed hard, it is normal to just cave in. is it true? please suggest some nice seat covers as well. budget around 4k to 5k. thanks.

Power window switches are not that bad.
I have not faced any problem with them in my past 50k kms.
That must be one odd problem. Not a matter of huge concern though.
For seat covers, I would suggest AUTOFORM skin fit seat covers. They are between 5-6k.

In heavy rains like yesterday, it was very difficult to see anything in the rear. The rear glass was too foggy. Also the side view mirrors were not of much help. Please advice me what to do in such conditions, as i drive almost 110kms/day, 80% highway driving.
Is there any option of fixing a rear viper in my dzire vdi?

Price of the tyres seems to be a little bit on the higher side.
Unfortunately, there is no way of fixing a rear wiper on DZire.
You can get defogger installed on rear glass. Although, I am not too sure how successful it is.
Try to keep you car below 60 for first 1000kms and below 2000 RPM for 5000 kms.

Only use normal diesel.
Do not use any fuel additives or Hi-Speed diesel.
It would do no good to the engine.

You can either add better speakers to the current system or replace the head unit (music system).
For replacing the headunit, you would require a replacement facia from swift.
Your current HU would be replaced and with the new facia, the dashboard would resemble as of swift’s.
Then you can install any music system there.
Changing speakers definitely improves the sound, but still its pretty poor, as the stock HU is very basic and crap.
I would recommend to change the HU.
FACIA plate would be available for Rs. 1000-1500.
Do not sell your stock system, you can hook it up at the time you sell your car.

i have selected components for front and coaxila for rear jbl,.and woofer
but the person at music store has confused me about the amplifier the Hu has 3Rca
how many channel amp will be required.one of them says 5 channel other say two amps will be rquired one amp for the woofer 2/1 channel and other seperate one for the front and rear speakers.

Projector headlamps have 2 different bulbs for high beam and low beam. Low beam has projector and high beam has regular reflector cone.
Projector spreads light better and you can fit HID in the projector low beam. HID fitted in projectors wont blind the oncoming traffic.
AND, they look SUPER COOL.
I have been using them for past 4 months, no problems with RTO.
Many people use them.
Headlights are already SOLD!!!!

What I would suggest is, get a good (KICKER or JBL) 4 channel amplifier and run your front components and woofer through amplifier.
Run the rear coaxials directly from head unit.
Choose a good head unit with 3 pre-outs.

Yes, the expensive sunfilms actually work.
LUMAR is a good brand as well.
I would suggest you to go for front windshield film as well (but only branded, scratch proof).
Make sure the front film is not too dark as well.

You can fit a bulb with higher rating in the fogs.
You can even fir a HID with ballast in the fog lamps. But, HID is not advisable, because it thrown white light, which in turn makes visibility more poorer in fog.
I would suggest, go for either Philips Rally or Osram Nightbreakers with either 90/100 or 90/130 bulbs in fog lamps.

I have done 3 servicing of my DZire VDI and showroom had not recommended me to change the oil filter.
They said they will change air and oil filter @ 20K km.
On all 3 servicing they changed only engine oil and not even gear oil or break oil.
Now it has been 17000KM and I feeling 1st and 2nd gear bit Harsh, in fact 1st is to hasrh some time.
But I am sure changing oil filter @ first servicing is not required.

I would suggest against the front guard.
The problem is, the guard has to be bolted on the chasis, and in case of heavy impact, it could bend the chasis.
Also, its a personal choice, but the front bull guard would not suit DZire. It only suits SUVs.
In the first service (1000 kms), neither the engine oil nor the filter would be changed. They would only top up the oil, do a general checkup, clean the air filter and wash the car. First service is free and the oil top-up would be chargeable, which would be around about Rs. 100. The total bill for first service should be close to Rs. 100.

The diesel filter and gear oil and changed at 20k intervals. The first change would be at 20k and then at 40k.
Diesel filter is expensive, it costs around Rs. 1200.
20k kms service would cost you between Rs. 5-6k.
Oil filter should have been changed at 10k kms.
You can get the gear oil checked, but first and reverse gears are always a bit harsh in swift and DZire (they share the same gear box).

I would recommend you to go for aftermarket alloys. Design of Maruti alloy would be very common and persoanlly I dont like the new design in DZire.
Swift alloy is still better.

Maruti is still using the same FIAT 1.3 DDiS Engine. They are still in talks with VW for engine procurement. But, nothing is final yet.
I dont see maruti switching to VW diesel engines in coming 2 years.
And, Yes, FIAT engines are pretty good. Very good on mileage and as good on power delivery.
hey sumit. i have dzire vdi ,done 11000 Kms. i changed the stock tyres to CEAT MILAZE 185/70/14 and alloys when the car had done only 1000 kms. now i feel that the suspension is gettin weak . is it because of the alloys? will the 15 inch do a better job? please suggest.
Get the suspension checked.
Alloys cannot cause any harm to suspension.
Too much travel on bad roads or no roads could cause the damage to suspension.
15″ would not solve the problem either.

What is the tyre size that you are using? Alloys are 15″ or 14″?
Alloys do not cause the hard to turn steering issue.
After putting 195/60-R15, steering tends to become heavier than the stock tyres (165/80-R14).
LENZO is Chinese brand and is a rip-off of the popular brand LENSO. Are you sure your’s are LENZO and not LENSO?

Color is a very personal choice.
I will give you my take on colors.
Black – It looks best in DZire. Black hides the curves of the car, especially from the rear 3rd quarter and makes the car look better. Boot integration of DZire is not the best. Black just makes it look better.
On the down side, black is difficult to maintain, both is terms of dirt and scratches.
If you have someone to clean the car and you can save your car from dents and scratches, I’d say, go for BLACK.
White and Silver – Both are pretty neutral colors. Easy to maintain. Car looks less dirty, when dirty, than black. Scratches are less visible as well.
If its between White and Silver, I’d say, go for White.

Tyre size seems perfect.
Get the alloys checked. Heavy steering could be due to tyre upgrade.
Get the air pressure checked. It should be 29 or 30.

I have not heard of Hi-Tech brand. I would suggest you go for AUTOFORM. Its a much better brand and price range is same. You should get the Dri-Fit range from autoform in 5.5-6k range.
Seat covers should be chosen according the interior colors. The best for DZire are either grey or black colored seat covers.

Have booked my white Dzire ZDI after lots of research. I am planning for some mods as soon as i get the delivery. Need your help.
1. Planning to upgrade tyres. Thinking of 195/60R15 or 195/55R16…Is 195/55R16 available in market.
2. Planning for simple body kits…any suggestions and recommendations please (Not interested in MGA body kit as its costly)
3. What type of Spoiler would look good on Dzire..I have heard that lip spoilers will suit the dzire…but not sure….
1. 195/55-R16 is available in the market. Check some local tyre shops.
Here is the recommended list of tyre upgrades:
195/60-15
195/55-16
205/45-17
205/55-16
215/45-17
225/40-17
2. Choose the body kits carefully. Indian road conditions are very bad for body kits. You will scrapping your side skirts on speed breakers and potholes.
I would suggest not to go for side skirts. Just replace the rear and front bumper with a modified one. There are many options available in front bumper, as it is shared with the swift.
3. Only the lip spoiler would look good. Do not go for bigger spoilers, they would ruin the look.

The primary reason was, that I do not drive the DZire that much these days.
Its not my primary car.
If you are going for projector setup, be sure to go for HID kit.
Only choose a branded HID kit, like Philips or Bosch.
I did not have HID kit in my setup, and the light was just too weak.

195/60-R15 would give you better ride quality.
195/55-R16 would be a little bit on harsher side. The only upside is that 16″ alloys look great and low profile tyres too add to the look.
195/60-R15 would give you smoother ride, but still bumpier than stock tyres.

Regarding the projector setup with HID, this is what i have thought of.
Low beam – HID
High beam – Will stick with the halogen that comes with the projector.???
1. What color is the halogen that comes with the projector? White?
2. What ru suggestions for the fog. Should I install the halogen that i remove from low beam to the fog.
3. Regarding the HID. Should i go for 4300k or 8000k. Which one will give pure white light.

I would suggest you to go for HID in low beam and stick to the halogens that come with the lights for high beam.
1. It would depend on the headlights you buy. Normally its yellow light. I would suggest you to stick the halogen with yellow light in high beam. If you change it to white bulb, the visibility will suffer a lot in foggy days. Yellow halogen in high beam would ensure you better visibility in foggy days.
2. Fog lamps have different bulbs. I would suggest you to keep them stock. They have a good throw.
3. I would suggest 4300k or a maximum of 6500k. Nothing above that. 4300k HID would be whiter.

my dzire vdi was giving me an average of 16kms/Lt before the firstservice i.e 1000kms. Now it is reduced to 14.5(current reading around 3200kms in 50 days. Any reason for this and how do i improve the mileage. THANKS.TC.
Average depends a lot on your driving style and weather.
In summers, due to a/c average drops.
Shift gears below 2000 RPM. If you drive with a light foot, you should be able to get around 16-18 kmpl in city and 20-22 kmpl on highway.

Sadly, there is no way to add a USB cable to play music from a thumb drive.
You can play songs from your phone. You need to purchase a AUX cable for your phone.
Simply connect the phone to your music system using that AUX cable and play the songs on your mobile.

I completed 20k on my Dzire VDI recently. currently running near to 25k and completed 4th Paid servicing also. I never reached 20KM Mileage on highways. I Have conducted mileage test couple of days back on highway for 500KM for 2 days trip. I barely achieved 18Kmpl. How all you guys are achieving 20 – 22 KMPL ?. I never crossed 100 KMPH on test drive and i am more or less near to 80KMPH. @ what speed you are achieving 20-22 KMPL mileage ? . How much RPM i should maintain normally, I notieced 2400 RPM when I am touching 100K. is this OK ?
I am using 185/70/R14 tyres with Nitrogen as air.

To get the best fuel efficiency, keep the tacho below 2000 RPM.
In summers, with ac on, I was getting 16KMPL and very occasionally I will get 17KMPL.
And, I don’t drive that slow as well.

Most the exhaust tips are local products and you will find them in your local accessory shop.
They range between 150-350. Just choose the design you like.

It may make rattling sound if its not installed properly.
Choose the one considering the width of the exhaust pipe.
Do not pickup which has a cap on the opening and cut on the bottom.
I dont know any branded exhaust tips.

Changing to 185 section rubber would not cause any drop in FE. Even the ZDi model comes with same tyre width.
In city you can expect 15-18 KMPL (depending on traffic conditions in your city) and on highways you can expect 19-23 KMPL.

205 would be an overkill in 14″ rims.
185 is the correct size in 14″, max you can stretch is 195.

I would suggest you to try the OSRAM HID as well. They are supposed to better than phillips.
If you plan to install the HID without the projector setup, you will blind the oncoming traffic.
I would suggest you to skip the HID kit in fog lamps. HIDs throw light which is white in color, and thus not effective in foggy conditions.

16″ or 17″ would make the ride a bit stiff. You will feel all the potholes and bad patches on roads.

Here are the answers to all your queries.
1. Depends on usage, if you really need the boot go for DZire. i20 is a modern car when compared to DZire.
2. DZire is definitely not a looker. i20 looks much much better. DZire wont grow on you. If I had thought it through at the time I bought the car, I would’ve gone with the SWIFT (i20 was not launched at that time).
3. K-Series engine is an excellent all rounder. Its a great engine. Good FE and good performer. I would rate K-Series above the Kappa on i20.
4. I would suggest you to go for 185/70-R14 (in DZire/Swift). If you want a better looking car then I would suggest 195/60-R15. With 195 tire, ride quality will suffer a bit, but no affect on FE.
5. Build quality is strictly ok, its nothing to write home about. Its rather below average. My car rattles a lot after 50k kms.
6. one of the MUST things to do is to change the tires. Stock tyres on both i20 and Swift are crap. Go for Michelin if your budget allows, otherwise, go for Continental or Yokohama. Its a much upgrade. Rest depends on your preferences. You can change the speakers, get sun film installed etc.
If I had to choose the car between i20 and DZire/Swift, I would go for i20.

Its 27K of my DZire VDI which is more than a year old now.
In last 20K service maruti workshop suggested me to change disk brake pads and diesel filter; but both were not in stock.
After that I have driven around 7K; now brakes create noise so I think it should be replaced.
Planning to Bosch brake plates and diesel filter instead of MGA. What you say ?

Brake pads last for atleast 45-50k kms.
Its not normal for them to go kaput at 20k.
Get them checked, and if there is nothing left in them, you should get it changed.
It affects your braking.

my dzire vdi has completed 10700kms, with all the 3 services done on time. yet, it gives me an average of 16kms/L, even though 80% of my driving is on highway.

tips for dzire engine for gr8 n long life performance engine
plz don’t accelerate while engine start up for 30sec approx.
and plz also dont accelerate while engine stop.
bcz our engine is turbo charged engine:-> turbo is run at very high rpm that u know i think 1 round engine = 33 rounds of turbo
when we shut of our engine with accelerate then engine is stop but turbo run at high rpm without lubrication. that will damage our turbo so plz don’t
and second when we start up engine our engine oil is drain at bottom chamber. it will take few time pump all over at engine.

if we accelerate our engine after starting. our engine can run without lubrication that will damage our engine or turbo. and always check oil pressure light and oil gauge after few days or water also
some people think that if accelerate engine before or after starting and our engine warm soon but its u r doubt u may damage ur engine not warm

So you want to say every time I want to start driving I should start the Car and wait for 30 sec before putting 1st gear and accelerating? And every time while switching of the engine again I shoould wait for 30 sec in ideal mode; right ?
Also it is recommended that we should change engine oil every 10K ; will it be benficial to change it every 5K; which castrol oil is better for DZire VDI ? rather than Maruti Service center oil?
If you idle the car for 30 secs before you start and after you stop, its really good for engine.
Changing oils at 5k intervals is also healthy.
As long as your car is under warranty, I would suggest you to stick with maruti authorized service center, After the warranty is over, you can choose any of your favorite local workshop for oil change.
yeah after starting car on the morning.if u w8 30 sec oil will lubricate all over the engine perfectly. its stickily recommended on morning while first warming up the engine. my mechanic told my when i bought gypsy with toyota turbo 3c engine
secondly we also have change oil at 5k km.
bcz India is a dusty country our air dusty too much. thats why we have to change 5k km
and also our oil quality is poor
if our company recommended at 10k bcz in abroad engineers recommended 10k as there clean roads and air but India is totally different from them
if we see guaranty period our problems coverd in period but after all our engine life is less day by day and we have to face any type of prob after guaranty period
for best performance i will recommended synthetic oil it will change after 20k km

Synthetic oil is much better than mineral.
I would suggest you guys to go for Mobil 1, and change it every 15k kms.
