THE THOUGHT PROCESS
September 2009 – Our 2002 model M800 stalled in middle of the road. After towing it to the nearest garage, I found out that the car was running without the engine oil and was told that engine overhaul was required. In the last service, I did not accompany the driver (who left the job 2 months ago). Seems like he skimped on the oil change to make some extra money for himself. M800 was due for an upgrade anyway; we sold the car in the current condition for 85k (Got a great deal, if you ask me!).
October 2009 – Decided that we needed a small car. My dad is limited to a wheelchair, and the main requirement was that the car we buy should accommodate a wheelchair in boot and priced around 4L. Here are the few choices and reasons for rejections.
- WagonR VXi – Fitted the bill, but I have heard/read that it was due for a major upgrade. I did not wanted to buy an outgoing model, so dropped the idea.
- Zen Estillo VXi – Had good FE, decent cabin space, boot can hold the wheelchair. Engine was 3 pot, no refinement. Looks did not appeal to me.
- Ritz LXi – This was a serious contender. The car had everything we required. Had almost finalized on the car. But since this car was to be used by my parents, I took my mom and dad to the showroom. They immediately rejected on basis of appearance.
- i10 1.2 Magna – Good to drive in city, very nice interiors, looks and quality (best in class). Boot was small.
It seemed that we will have to go a little high on budget. Stretched the budget to 5L.
The first car we looked at was i20 petrol. It is a great car. Everything in the car is class leading. Features, cabin space, boot, appearance. The only thing that I didn’t like was the engine on offer. Anyways, that was not a deal breaker, since the car would be a chauffeur driven to be used by parents.
January 2010 – Punto was always on back of my mind. Had TDed it at the time of launch. It’s the best looking hatch. Flowing lines and Italian mesmerizing looks. It was a dream hatch for me. I drive a DZire VDi (40,000 kms old). I asked my parents if they would want to use the DZire, they were ok with it. So, it was decided, I would buy Punto MJD for myself and give DZire to my parents.
With a budget of 5L, and requirement for diesel, Punto Active MJD @ 5.04L was the only option.
Color was already decided, it had to be Exotica Red. It’s the closest to Ferrari red. Punto Looks awesome in that color.
BUYING EXPERIENCE
24th January 2010 – Went to Joshi Autozone to enquire about the availability. The salesman was very rude. He was much more interested in selling me Indica Vista. Did not offer me any test drive (although, I didn’t want one). I told him to check the availability of red or blue color. He stated his personal dislikes for both the colors (comparing RED with tamatar and BLUE with a dustbin lying around), and insisted on silver or white, which were readily available. When I insisted on Exotica Red, he said that they would need 50k advance (against 10k for other colors), which would not refundable with a signed bond that color change is not allowed and car would take 1.5 – 2 months to arrive. That was it for me, I left the dealership.
25th January 2010 – Visited HIND Motors, Mohali. The salesman (Mr. Negi) there was very courteous. The showroom had good ambience and offered me a better deal than Joshi. They asked for a 10K advance and promised a delivery time of between 15-20 days. Although, they also told me that the color change would not be allowed. I was OK with that. Had a good experience overall. I decided to book the car there. Told them I would come back on 27th with the booking amount.
27th January 2010 – Reached HIND Motors @ 11AM. Paid them 10k advance and got the other booking formalities completed. They offered me Finance from SBoP. I already knew someone from HDFC who would help me with the loan; I told them that I would get it done myself.
Next day, I called up that guy from HDFC and asked for the formalities, he gave me the list of documents required for the approval of loan. After 2 days, I gave him all that he has asked for and he told me that approval should not take more than 3-4 days. 5 days later, the loan is approved. All this time, this guy from HDFC was thinking that I am buying the car from JOSHI Autozone. I told him that I have booked the car at HIND Motors. He said that their company had a few problems with HIND in the last few dealings and they don’t deal with them anymore. I told him I cannot cancel the booking with HIND. He said there is no way out.
3rd February 2010 – I called up Mr. Negi and told him about the situation. He told me that he would get my case approved from SBoP on fast track. I had a little hope though, Nationalized banks are known for taking their sweet own time. I went ahead anyway, since they had the most competitive rate of interest.
8% for 1st year and 10% and 2nd and 3rd year. Processing fees was Rs. 1000. It was better than what HDFC have offered.
12th February 2010 – Got a call from HIND that my car has arrived. Reached the showroom within an hour with PDI list. A friend of mine (Sharat) dropped me at the showroom. Punto was looking smashing in red color. There were numerous Indicas / Safaris / Puntos / Lineas in their rooftop stockyard, my red Punto really really stood out. ODO read 5kms. The car was in typical stockyard condition. I spent 20 minutes checking the car, everything seemed perfect. I paid them rest of the money, excluding the loan amount.
I then enquired about my loan status. Mr. Negi told me that the loan was approved, and the draft would be ready by tomorrow. I told him that I would take delivery on Monday (15th Feb), Saturday being not considered a good/auspicious day to buy metal/iron.
13th February 2010 – Visited SBoP with my wife(Loan/Car was in her name) to complete the formalities for the loan. She signed the loan agreement and gave them 12 cheques. They told us to come back on Monday to collect the draft for the loan amount.
Dropped my wife at home and went to HIND motors. Asked them if they had the fog lamps available, and luckily they had one set in stock. Got them fitted (took nearly 2 hours).
15th February 2010 – I reached SBoP at 10 AM. They told me that the draft would take time and asked me to come back at 12PM. I went back at 1 PM and finally got the draft at 1:45.
After collecting the draft, went back home to have lunch drop the car. Cab dropped me at HIND Motors at around 3 PM.
Paper work was completed in around 1.5 hours. I took the delivery of the car at around 5 PM. Told the guys at dealership to remove the ribbon and not to put coconut in the car. They were a bit shocked. They were like “Nayee gaadi hai sir, thodee der toh laga lo”. I do not like ribbons, and Pink ribbon was not going well the red car anyway. I gifted Salesman (Negi) a nice steel bodied parker pen and moved out of the showroom.
Overall, I had a good experience with the dealership. I would recommend them.
CAR DELIVERED
I have always found the ride back home in the new car the scariest. All cars/bikes/rickshaws/cyclists seems to be heading your way. Picked up wifey from her office on my way back and headed home.
On my way back I was at a signal and started to move when it was my turn. There was a lot of traffic ahead of me. By the time I was in the middle of intersection the signal turned yellow. I had to cross and unluckily I was the last car to cross (There were 2-3 cars behind me, but they overtook from right/left). I was stopped by policemen. I did argue a lot. I told them that when I crossed, the signal still had 5 seconds left. But they did not listen, and issued a challan anyway. Not a good start, anyhow:
This is the deal I have got:
Ex. Showroom Price: Rs. 5,04,896

Corporate Discount: – Rs. 9000 (Wife works in HSBC Bank)

Total – Rs. 5,08,896 (approx.)
Went for the customary Pooja next day at Mata Mansa Devi Temple.
DRIVING EXPERIENCE:
I drive a DZire VDi, Verna CRDi, Scorpio mHawk and Innova. I will be comparing the driving experience to Swift DZire VDi as they share the same heart and are in the same price bracket.
The initial pickup is not as good as swift. It seems slow as compared to swift, there is no doubt!! But once you have crossed 2000 RPM, things start to improve. Loads of torque in mid range. Car feels planted on high speeds (upwards of 120). NVH levels are better. No vibrations. Turbo lag is bit less than Swift’s (feels less atleast). Car pulls a little better than Swift below 2000 RPM in higher gears.
After the turbo kicks in, it’s almost similar to swift. Car seems eager to move forward. Gear shift is precise, although I feel swift is better in this department.
Handling is a lot better. Suspension is much better than Swift. There seems to be less body roll. Car seems very stable on high speeds and a lot more planted, inspires confidence. Although, I am still in run-in period, I have taken it to 120 kmph a couple of times. Punto seems better for driving fast on turning roads and jumping into tight corners and inspires confidence.
Ride quality is far ahead than its competition. Punto behaves a lot better on bad roads than Swift. I have same section tires on swift. Punto’s suspension seems to be build to take on 195/60-R15. Same sized tires on swift gives harsh ride when compared.
Braking is better than swift (Both cars I have are non-ABS).
Turning radius is more than Swift. Clutch seems a little longer on Punto (You have to press deeper than Swift).
Trip Computer is nice; shows distance to empty, current consumption, overall consumption, average speed, total time for which car is driven in a tank etc. Although, I wish there were 2 trips available. I think Emotion variant has 2 trips.
I knew how the car was to drive, before buying, so there are no complaints. I have planned to install Petes, so things should improve.
Build quality is top-notch. This car will have a lot less rattles than swift.
The car has been driven for 956 kms so far. Got a FE of 17.1 on the first tank, according to the car’s trip computer, 100% city driving without a/c.
Interiors: Rear leg room is better, boot is larger and seats are more comfy in Punto. Footwell is a bit cramped when compared to Swift. Interiors overall seems better (Plastic quality and overall appearance/design) than Swift. Twin glove box and a few chubby holes give a lot of space to throw your stuff around. Plastic quality, although is acceptable but attracts a lot of dust due to the pattern. Steering wheel is awesome to hold, provides good grip and is very responsive. Its much better than electric ones specially on high speeds.
Dials are nice, is there any way I can fit the dials of Emotion variant? Or maybe just the chrome ring circling the dials?
The knobs provided to adjust the ORVMs are of pretty bad quality, they don’t seem like built to last. Quality of rubber, the positioning, the design and adjustment angels it provides are all bad.
FIAT should have left the wiper controls at the normal position instead of reversing it. I keep switching between cars and its really tough getting used to.
Had a few niggles with the car:
The glove box lock was a little loose. Going over a bump would automatically open the glove box (lower one). The boot could not be opened from inside sometimes, the latch used to open the boot became non-responsive at times.
Went over to the dealership, the boot opening lever was fixed in 5 mins. There was something loose that connected lever with the boot lock. The glove box lock was also fixed within a couple of mins. The mechanic asked me to try the glovebox lock. I found it a bit tight to open. He told me to try harder, and I did. The lever came in my hand. It was broken. Luckily, they had one in stock and replaced it within 15 mins with no charges form my end.
I have got the ORVMs, front grills and fog lamp enclosure painted from outside. I also planned on painting the door handles body colored. Now, opening the handles is a pretty tedious job. The mechanic spent good 20-25 mins on one handle and it was still not dismantled. He told me that this is the first time he is working on Punto. I told him to put things the way they were and I will get them painted from the dealership. He did put it back, but now the car would not lock from outside with a key. Luckily it was the passenger side door.
After a couple of days I took the car to the dealership and told them that there was something wrong with the lock. They looked at it and told me that a spring in the lock was faulty and the whole assembly would be replaced and it would be done under warranty. They did not have one in stock. I was told to come back in a week or 10 days as it will come from Pune. Still have to get it fixed somewhere next week.
On my visit to the dealership, I have got the mudflaps removed. They were little too big for my taste. I will look out for some small ones, which are functional but at the same time do not cover the entire tyre. Anyone using any other mudflaps? Mudflaps I had seemed original, “For use in Punto” was written on it.
MODIFICATIONS:
After the Pooja, headed straight to tyre shop.
Changed the Tyres:
I had already purchased a set of brand new Punto OE alloys @ Rs. 9000. I was confused about which tyre to go for. Size was decided (195/60R15). I have Yokohama A-Drive on DZire (same size). They are good tires. But, this time I wanted to try something different.
The tires in consideration were Yokohama V550 (db Series), Yokohama A-Drive, Pirelli (Forgot the model), Michelin Primacy LC and Continental CPC2.
In the confusion, called a TBHP member Abhishek. He was close by and soon arrived with another TBHP member Shresht. They both swore by CPC2. Michelin was out of contention cause of the price. Did not like the pattern on Pirelli. I was not interested in getting another Yokohama (already have a C-Drive on Innova, GEOLANDAR on Scorpio and A-Drive on DZire).
I was inclining more towards CPC2, Abhishek PMed a tyre guru from TBHP (Nikhil) and he confirmed that Continental ContiPremiumContact2 was a better tyre than Yoko V550 or A- Drive. He said CPC2 was almost comparable to mighty Michelin.
The manufacturing date on the tyre was bit old, but I was getting warranty from the date of purchase (5 years). Again confirmed with Nikhil, he said most of the Conti tyres have old manufacturing dates. I went to another tyre shop, just to check. The CPC2 there also had date of manufacturing in close range to one I have already seen. To convince me even more, the owner of the shop (Bansal Tyre Zone) got on phone with Continental’s RM and asked me to talk to him. He told me that this is the latest date you will find in any shop and you will get 5 year warranty from the date of purchase and even gave his personal contact number, just in case there is any problem.
Got Continental ContiPremiumContact2 (CPC2) 195/60-R15 fitted on the OE Punto Rims that I already had with me. Got it at a price of Rs. 4100 per tyre. Free alignment and balancing was done at the shop. The stock tyres were evaluated at Rs. 1700 per tyre and RIMS (Without wheelcaps) @ Rs. 800.
The CPC2 seems a lot better than A-Drives. Less noise and better grip.
These are some of the mods I have done to make my FIAT Grande Punto MJD (Active) to take it close to Emotion Pack:
- Punto OE Alloys with 195/60/R15 section rubber CPC2.
- Fitted Fog Lamps (Rs. 2350 incl. Labor charges, bought from FIAT Dealership).
- Painted ORVMs body colored.
- Painted front 2 grills and fog lamp enclosure silver (Costed Rs. 1500 incl. ORVMs)
- Kenwood KDC-BT7043U (Bluetooth Enabled, PARROT Bluetooth Kit).
- Infinity Front Components.
- Blaupunkt 4-Channel Amplifier.
- Rear speakers Infinity Reference 9633i.
- Roof Antenna (costed Rs. 150, FIAT Dealership quoted a whopping Rs. 1945).
- Sun Film.
- FIAT 500 Original Keyfob (bought form eBay UK)
For those interested, Kenwood KDC-BT7043U Bluetooth works like a charm. The HU comes with a built-in Parrot Bluetooth kit. (Excerpt from Wikipedia: Parrot’s Bluetooth hands free technology can also be found in first mount in vehicles, thanks to OEM deals with car manufacturers: Nissan, BMW, Renault, Peugeot, Fiat… )
It can pair upto 5 phones. Can sync address book. There is no extra MIC required; it’s built in the HU. You can also increase the mic gain. You can dial a phone number from the HU remote control unit as well.
EDIT:
I have changed the head unit to KENWOOD eXcelon X994. I have got the pillars painted black.
Thinking of buying a few more accessories soon.
MODS Planned for Future:
- Rear Power windows.
- Remote operated Central Locking.
- A Sub.
- Petes (at somewhere between 10-15k kms).
- K&N Filter.
- Retrofitting projectors with HID and angel eyes.(Similar to aZa’s Getz)
- Powder coating the OE wheels matt black with a red or mirror lip.
A few questions for fellow Punto owners:
- The engine oil that comes with the car, is it synthetic or mineral?
- If its mineral, is it advisable to change it to synthetic at first service (3000 km)?
- Has anyone tried petes on Punto? Is it the same box used in Palio? And, how is the performance after installing Petes. Worth it?
- The bump in the BHP after installing petes, does it affect engine in any bad way?
- Has anyone installed after market remote operated central locking? If yes, which brand? I have heard there are no specific (made for Punto) central locking available.
- Has anyone installed rear power windows on Active model? If yes, which brand?
Update:
Last week I went ahead and got my door handles painted.
Dismantling and installing the handles back is not an easy job.
I didn’t want to get them painted from the dealership, as I don’t like their workmanship when it comes to painting.
I am very satisfied with the work of a local painter/workshop that I frequent (Baboo Painter, Indl. Area, Chd).
So I got phone number of a mechanic who works at dealership.
He told me that he will remove the door handles for me on Sunday, I can get them painted at my convenience and he would fit them back in any weekday after he is free from his job.
I got them removed on Sunday, they were painted on Monday and fitted that very evening. Removing the handles were pretty easy. All 4 were removed in 45 minutes.
Fitting them back was a task. Took good 2.5 hrs.
Had to fit them back with flash light on of my blackberry.
I also de-badged the rear of my Punto.
The FIAT mechanic was paid Rs. 250 and paint was done for Rs. 900. Total damages – Rs. 1150
I have uploaded some WIP pictures.
UPDATE: September 06, 2010
Today I bought the recently launched Central Locking for the ACTIVE model by FIAT India.
Did not have time to get it installed, so I bought the central locking with me. I will go there in couple of days to get it installed. They were saying it would take around 4-5 hours to install it.
I have uploaded the pictures as well.

Great post. I bought a White Active a month after yours, so this read almost like my review (which i never wrote LOL). Congrats on a great buy and thanks for sharing the purchase details.
Post what you find out about central lock. Our dealer says it will void warranty, although Fiat website doesn’t say this nor their service desk confirmed. Fiat have no remote or manual central lock available and won’t allow 3rd party accessory either. Weird, no?
Other than that, the car is a dream!
Thanks and Congratulations on your new car as well.
Still no signs about Central locking specifically made for Punto!!
It is pretty weird that FIAT is not providing remote locking as an option.
Getting it installed from outside will void warranty if it is not made of Punto.
@admin
@vidooshak
central locking and remote key option is avaliable as option with fiat. They charge apx 10,000 for same and warranty as well. No other warranty is void.
Got this confirmed from A One Motors Delhi
@anand sahu
Yes, its even their on FIAT’s website as well. http://www.fiat-india.com/fiat-accessories.aspx?ModelId=6
Costs Rs. 9985 for Punto Active (pretty expensive if you ask me).
AUTOCOP is providing them the central locking.
They have some contract with AUTOCOP, which does not allow them to sell it in open market for certain period of time.
Thats why, its not yet available in open market.
Since there is no other option available, I thought of getting it installed form dealership.
I have visited them thrice so far, they still have not received any stocks.

Hey.
Nice review. I have just booked a Punto Emo-Pack in Exotica red. I wanted to pick your brains a bit on tires since Im a complete noob in tire-talk. I want to change the stock tires for some better quality rubber (read Conti/Michelin/Yoko). But while handling is important for me, ride quality is of paramount importance and especially so for my folks and grandfolks. So I cant compromise on the ride quality bit at all. With this in mind, can you suggest which would be the ideal tire set for me? Also, how much would I get for exchanging the brand new set of stock tires of the Punto Emo Pack?
Thanks.
Hi Rishabh
Congratulations on your new car.
The E-Pack comes with 195/60-R15, which is the perfect size in terms of ride quality. If you plan on fatter rubber, the profile will go low and will in turn make the ride harsh/bumpy.
I would suggest you stick to 195/60-R15.
The stock tyres should be deducted at somewhere close to Rs. 3000 / per tyre.
Michelin makes the best tyres. Go for Michelin Primacy LC (195/60-R15), should cost close to Rs. 4800.
2nd best tyre would be Continental CPC2. Same size will cose around Rs. 4200.
I would rate Yokohama V550 (db Series) 3rd. Costs almost same as CPC2.
Yokohama A-Drive will cost Rs. 3800-3900 and is 4th on the list.
If budget is not a constraint go for Michelin Primacy LC. Otherwise CPC2.
@Admin,
U are damm right my friend i had the yokohama S drive fitted on the very second day of delivery and trust me the feel of the car is absolutely pathetic. i have done more than 12k on the meter in just 6 months, should i switch back to the original stock size as i am really furstrated with these S drives on my emotion pack.
Nice Review
Congrats man red looks hot . I Bought a white Punto MJD active 2 months back. Got my OVRMs and door handles painted before delivery from Joshi autozone. got alloys and upgraded the tyres to 195/60 R-15. used my existing music system from my old car and got it installed from 28. Like you , i too was warned for not getting central locking installed from outside but it has been 2 months the agency still doesnt have the approved one with them . its realy irritating as i have to lock the passenger door from inside or use my key and go around. rest i m pretty much in love with the car esp its looks which i dont think will be outdated soon.
Congrats Manav on your car.
So, you are from Chandigarh as well!!!
Which alloys did you go for, and what is the color of your car.
Let me know when you find the recommended central locking.
Cheers!!!
hello,
congrats on your purchase
i too drive the grane punto diesel emotion
just one question, did u pay 9k for a set of 4 alloys or for each piece? Just curious coz the dealer quoted 40k for a set of 4?
Thanks
I paid 9k for the set of 4.
I bought them from a tyre shop, where someone (who owns a Punto E Pack) exchanged his alloys with some aftermarket ones.
If you are looking for alloys, try some of your local tyre/alloy shops.
Hi Sumit,
Congrats!! on your Red Italian Beauty, I have a minimal grey MJD and looking to get some Projectors (Angel Eyes) on, was wondering if you have got done yet. If yes can you tell me where this was done.
P.S. : We have a Punto User India Forum on Google Groups, hope to see you there.
Regards,
Arvind
Thanks.
I still have not gone for projector setup with halo rings.
It might be difficult to find angel eyes for punto off the shelf.
You can order them from eBay. Just make sure that you slect the right make of the punto.
Alternatively, you can get them custom made is India.
These guys use projectors from accidental cars (Like SKODA, BMW etc) and modify your current headlamp unit. The projector is retrofitted with halo rings and you can add HID kits as well.
I do not know where you are based. I know there are a few shops doing this in delhi.
Drop in an email at info@cmd-india.com, they do the custom lights. Here is their website: http://www.cmd-india.com/TailLights.htm
Also, can you post the link for Google Groups?
Hi Sumit,
Thanks for the info on the custom Angel eyes, I thought of getting the Angel Eye kits from UK, but I am not sure if they will fit for Indian Punto or not. The Indian Punto’s lenght was reduced for excise benefits. Anyways will try to see if I can get some other alternative.
On a side note, checkout http://www.teamfiat.co.in
Arvind
dude, nice website!!
i’ve read this post on tbhp, came across your site while looking for alternate mudflaps for my punto!! the keyword ‘mudflaps for punto’ returns this post as the first result on google!!
anyway, you’ve got them removed? i removed them as well but because of the shoddy drill job, have had to put them back. have you managed to cover those holes that they drill to fit these ugly looking mudflaps on in the first place?
cheers,
ramki (raamki on tbhp)
Thanks Ramki
I have yet not found small sized mudflaps for my punto.
Frankly I still the drill holes in my car are not that visible. Atleast, I have not noticed them myself.
Have you tried changing the inner plastic cover on the inside of bumper. You can change it if its affordable.
Hello Mr Sumit,
That is a great color you have selected for your GP. I’ve also got your review from team-bhp saved on my PC:-). I live in sec-12. I’ve been searching for Punto alloys at the local shops in sec-28, Chd but have been unsuccessful. Can you tell me from which shop did you buy them? And did you come across them incidentally or did you specifically asked them if they were having any OE Punto alloys that someone might have sold them?
Dealers here were only interested in modifying the 100PCD alloys to meet the 98PCD compatibility for GP.
Hi PuntoFan
You are right, most of the dealers would try to sell you 100PCD alloys.
I specifically asked for punto OE alloys.
There is still one brand new OE Punto alloys lying with “Bansal Tyre Zone” sector – 28.
You can buy it from them. Should cost you around 8-9k.
Let me know if you need any more help.
Does the Kenwood 7043 have bluetooth A2DP profile for stereo audio streaming?
I dont think 7043 supports A2DP.
I have upgraded my HU to Kenwood eXcelon X994 and I have tested it on this HU. X994 supports A2DP.
Hii everyone . I also bought punto active bosonova white 2 months back.. I liked the review very much….
Thanks a lot Vilas!!!
Hi,
I bought My Fiat Punto Active MJD(Medium Grey) in the month of May 2010. I am very happy with the quality and performance of the car. Getting an average of 18 KMPL. Total km travelled by now is 5200.
I got fixed a sony xplod(CD,MP3, USB, Ipod control). Nice quality art leather seat covers(black colour to match with the interiors).
Still waiting for few more mentioned below.
Central Locking: Dealer was unable to provide information on Central locking system. I called the Fiat Customer Care today(31/07/2010) and got information on central locking system for Punto Active. They said “the system is now available. Please ask your dealer to place order”.
It will cost about 9K, as per the dealer. I have ordered one. Its better to get fixed one from fiat instead of getting your warranty void.
I suggest my friends here to check with your dealer for central locking, else call customer care 18002095556.
Roof mounted: Other than this I also have ordered for a roof mounted antenna. Can anybody suggest me, if I can opt for a cheaper option in roof antenna?
Amit
Yes, you are right, Central locking is not available from FIAT itself for Active model.
It will set you back by Rs. 9985.
Central locking in made by AUTOCOP and they have some sort of contract with FIAT, that does not allow them to sell it in open market for atleast 6 months.
Its pretty expensive, considering the most of the central locking systems provided by AUTOCOP costs close to 3.5k.
Regarding the roof antenna, you can get it fixed from any accessory shop.
It costs around Rs. 100. I have got it installed from an accessory shop.
hi sumit i read ur ownership review first in teambhp and now accidentally got to find ur site..it really cool i mean ur site..then ur car its great.even ive booked for one the same..they quoted me 3500 inr +tax for painting the orvm and door handles.but tehy told they wont do grilll painting at dealership.can you please tell em the grill paint,s brand and name..

Thanks for your compliments.
You can get the grills painted form any paint shop. Use and bright colored silver 2k paint on it.
Mine is the same color as in Ford Ikon silver.
I bought the antenna from an accessory shop. I am sure you can find it in any accessory shop.
I have already painted the pillars black. I have updated the new pictures in the blog post.
sumit
i checked out the oe alloy price and they quoted me around 13k per wheel and that is very expensive for me and have u any alternate ideas for it
also how much would we get for our 4 stock wheels when we sell it outside and then about pillars too how much did it cost for you, will it take much time to dry the paint are you sure that the pillars of active model delivered nowadays come with body colour ??
i was a lso planning to fix an autocop central locking system which would hardly cost 3.5k and will it void the warranty ??
You are right.
The price of OE Alloy wheels from the dealership is 13k per rim.
I bought mine from an aftermarket alloys/tyre shop.
Some people exchange their OE rims with the aftermarket alloy wheels and sell the OE rims to the shop owners.
I bought them for 9k for all 4 wheels. They must have bought them for around 5-6k from the owner.
Stock rims do not fetch much. The MAX you will get is Rs. 400 per rim. I sold mine for Rs. 1200 (for all 4 of them).
I am sure that the Active model does not come with black pillars. They always came with body colored pillars.
On a bright sunny day, the paint would dry off in a few hours.
If you paint it in the morning, it should det in by the evening.
About the autocop, their is different central locking for active model.
You wont be able to fir the regular autocop in the active model. Their locking mechanism is different than other cars.
Accessory shops do fit the Autocop on active model, but with some jugaad. And the locks tend to break over the time.
Its not successful.
Fiat has come up with a central locking for active model. Its pretty expensive though, Rs. 9985.
Hi,
I am planning for Punto Active MJD next 2 month but i need the alloys from fiat. Can you please let me know if you come across any set of 4 alloys that come on Punto/Linea 98 PCD .
I am from bangalore and ready to bare the transportation charges.
thanks

i tried a lot to get into teambhp and frankly speaking im not the best but im good at rides stunt, race and trip but the wont allow me in can u please tell me the truth on whats going on there
i think they ve stopped reg process and fooling people any way i quit from there and im checking out some other open forum i mean automotive forums which at least respects their followers

would be great if you give me an im id an your phone number and u seems to be agood guy to keep a friendship with in all aspects..u are a computer guy by profession na
??
You can add me in GTalk, my id is “sumitbahl”.
one of my college senior is havin an accessories shop and he told me they give s 1k for all for stock wheels
1k for steel rims or alloy wheels?
ya its really expensive the central locking and also the parking sensor ….
ma senior told me that he had fixed autocop in few punto active models and till now there is no problem and also the autocop guys comes home and fixes the problem if any….what should i do sumit
my car would be delivered on 1st of sept
I would suggest you wait for the proper central locking for punto active model to hit the market.
Wait till that time.
how much did it cost for painting the pillars
the fiat guys quoted me 3.5k taxes for painting the doorhandles and the orvm
For ORVM and door handles, I was quoted 1.8k form FIAT dealership.
1k for the door handles only.
hi…i own fiat punto 1.2active model.. i plan to change the black colored door handles to body colored. how much would it cost? and also to paint orvm?
Door handles and ORVM should cost you around Rs. 1500.
hi sumit
aylast my ride ahave reached the showroom but didnt get a leave to go n get my ride
they just ranguo me and asked me to come and pay the balance amount as they want to take temp registration for the car and also they told that they would deliver the car the very nxt day after the full apyment
is it fine?
the one more thing the stock tyres are of 165mm na can i go for a 195mm upgrade right away without making any changes in the stock steel wheel.will it make any problem in the future…i mean any kinda ??
then they quoted 3.5k for painting doorhandles and orvm
they dont have foglamps in stock so any alternate models or companies available ??
please reply me as soon as possible
sumeshnandha
The showroom only delivers car after the full payment is cleared.
You can go for 195. If you plan to keep the stock rims (14″), then the right upsize is 195/70-R14.
I would recommend 15″, 195/60-R15. I f you do not wish to go for alloys right now, you can exchange your punto rims with linea rims (should be free) and exchange the wheel caps as well.
Whenever you plan to go for alloys, you will have wider choice in 15″.
3.5k is a bit on higher side, try negotiating.
You will need to buy fog lamps from FIAT only, there are no alternatives available as of yet.
thanx sumit
then about exchanging the wheels for linea wheels sounds good, but where could i do that as thefiat dont give any exchange or upgrades, the only way is to purchase the wheels and again i loss some money when i sell my stock wheels,
i would like to know if it would be ok if i upgrade to 195/70-R14.
why would you recommend 15?, 195/60-R15(even i love this idea but my parents wont like spending much on that
i just inquired about this with a Tyre seller and he told me he could give me a 195/70-R14 upgrade by exchanging my stock wheels and also i should pay 2k per tyre..is it a good deal or should i go for some other shop ?
again another thing is that i am doing the full payment by check and so they told it would make the delivery process again late and delivery would be only after the realization of the check …
really sad to hear that yar…i am really excited to ride my beauty since i tried a test drive a couple of days before
“i just inquired about this with a Tyre seller and he told me he could give me a 195/70-R14 upgrade by exchanging my stock wheels and also i should pay 2k per tyre..is it a good deal or should i go for some other shop ?”
it was a typing mistake……..
its by exchanging my stock tyres and not wheels
Which tyre is he offering in exchange?
Price depends on the new tyre you are buying.
what is the average of punto diesel?
15-17 in City and 19-24 on highway.
I just said 15″ because, whenever you decide to upgrade to alloys, you will get better option in 15″.
Even the stock alloys on both LINEA and FIAT are 15″.
Exchanging 14″ punto rims with 15″ linea rims shouldn’t cost too much money.
As far as I think, it should be done for free, or max of Rs. 100-200 per steel rim.
195/70-R14 and 195/60-R15 would cost you almost same.
About the delivery, it will only happen after your cheque is realised.
feeling really terrified after reading this …i even fearif i should go for an upgrade of tyres or any sort of those things ??
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-dealerships/87886-i-paid-5-lacs-fiat-india-beat-me-up-joshi-autozone.html#post2046465
please reply soon sumit im really tensed after reading that
You will need to decide it for yourself.
He might have got a defected car, not all cars are like that.
Do a proper PDI before taking delivery.
PDI is having its limitations isnt it then what can i do…should i take some expert driver or a workshop guy with me for pdi..i am really tensed …
can we take the car out for pdi..i mean a test drive ?
even if everything is ok ….if i up size the tires and if any problem occurs, will my warranty be affected..
im am really tensed
You can take some experienced mechanic with you.
You cannot take out the car during the PDI. Although, you can drive it around in the dealership.
I have upsized my tyres and there is no problem.
Punto with same dynamics, suspension, engine comes with 195/60-R15 in E-Pack, so the tyre upgrade is not a problem.
So…. Did u mean that Left pulling in Punto is a problem only with Active , Dynamic & Emotion variants & NOT with Emotion pk. ? ( as E.pk has 195/60 R15 ? )
BTW did ur punto had left pulling with OE tyres ? ( 165/80 R14 )
Atul
can i put 205/60/r15 for my punto emotion not pack
i have got a 15”oem alloys from my friend
Nopes, the correct size would be 195/60-R15 or 205/55-R16.
thanx for sparing your time for me sumit any way gonna pay the balance amount tomorrow that too by cheque..lets see i hope for a speedy delivery of the car..its core banking now na…
Thats great.
Take a print out of TBHP PDI list with you.
hi sumit
any way paid the balance amount and also got a good deal.
they told they could take my 2003 model m800 for 85k + 15k bonus
then the delivery date is 4.9.10(2days after my birthday)
meantime i am in search of Linea wheels n caps for good exchange deal…
is their any way to get me into tbhp, can you recommend me ????????
really love tbhp
There is nothing I could do to help you get into TBHP.
You will just have to re-apply.
hey sumit what is this
http://www.sumitbahl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/IMG00111-20100521-1905.jpg
is it a mike ? and what for ?
Yes, its a mic.
My car stereo has in-built bluetooth. Mic came with the stereo, its for talking on phone.
Hai,
i jsut booked my punto active after visiting your blog, need your guidance for fog lamps upgrade.
whether the grills match the size of fog lamps to be fitted in active model. plz advice, im a bit confused on this.
Also i have read in ur post of team bhp reg painting the front grills with silver colour, u advised some colour and specification to choose, please post it here.
Congratulations on your new car.
The fog lamps comes with the enclosure to hold them in their spot. You will have no trouble fixing them.
The paint I used on the grills was the same color that comes in ford Ikon.
It was a 2k paint.
My painter suggested that its the brightest silver available, that’s why I went with it.
jerry where are you from and what about fog lamp..how much does it costa at your place
it costs 3200 for pair at coimbatore and no availability at trichur..
better leave the grill black if your car is exotic red colour..paint the orvm and the doorhandles…even just the door handles would do better..checkout some abarth punto pics
Hai guys,
thanks fr ur reply, im frm chennai, i just chkd with my sales executive yest, he said the warranty will get void if i fit the fog lamps (nt possible even thru them).
i have booked medium grey, im nt sure hw the black colour gril will go with my car colour. have to wait and see.
Sumesh,
if possible could you please confirm the shop name or the place where i can get fog lamps for my punto in coimbatore.
Check in the FIAT/TATA workshop spare part department.
They keep the fog lamps and not the accessory guys at dealership.
Atleast, that’s the case here in Chandigarh.
Hey guys
I have got my door handles painted.
I have uploaded some pictures and written a full report at end of the blog post.
sumit
congrats on your final stage upgrade to an emotion
great goin..yar
then i inquired the antenna price at th dealership..thats inr 380
cool rate na
then about linea wheel 15″ rim without wheel cap costs 2.5k per wheel …impossible so im sticking on to the old plan ..just changing the stock wheels to 195 ones ..upgrade cost 2k per tyre
Thanks…..
2.5k per rim for Linea is expensive.
I bought LINEA rim for my spare tyre (wanted 15″ and stock spare was 14″).
Bought it for Rs. 500 (without any exchange).
hi sumit
yesterday i went to my place..sri krishna jaynthi na..
went to the showroom and at last decided
*not to paint orvm n door handle from there and save 3..5k
checked their alloys..only neo brand was available and that too 2 models..i dint like either of them
http://www.neowheels.com/wheelmatch/trial.html?total=615473&loaded=615473&percent=100&soundstatus=on&mySound=object+Object&mySound2=object+Object&mySound3=object+Object&mySound4=object+Object&mySound5=object+Object
it costs 18k tooo so i just thought not to go for that
whats ur openinon ?
98 pcd alloys are very rare in open market and found only one model
check this picture
http://i56.tinypic.com/n52efn.jpg
This one its 14″ but 100pcd i loved this pattern..its 14k one
but 100pcd is the problem
check pic
http://i54.tinypic.com/a5b3gg.jpg
again heard that sai magwheels have 98 pcd alloys but i dont know where to get it or the price
check pic
http://i52.tinypic.com/23vkm0o.jpg
my other option is——————————-
leave the plan for alloys and instead upsize to 195 size 14″
on the same steel rim..but they told while claiming for warranty in rare cases like suspension problem and all it may void warranty and now im tensed and i cant do anything on my car….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im really tensed yar
please suggest some good idea
NEO 14″ wheels are not that expensive.
You could easily get them for under 14k from outside.
Sai Mag Wheels has lot more options. You can order the wheels from their site as well.
Here is their website > http://www.alloywheelsindia.com/index.php
There shouldn’t be any problem with voiding warranty, atleast 50% of people shod their cars with aftermarket wheels.
Anyways, if you are really concerned, here is what you can do.
Do not sell the stock 14″ steel rims. Keep them with you. If there is some problem with the car after fitting the alloy wheels and you need to claim warranty, shift back to stock wheels before visiting dealership.
hi sumit
my budget wont allow me to upgrade both wheel and tyre….
i can opt only one for now
which one should i select
1) up-size the Tyre to 195 r14
2)buy alloys and use the stock 165 tyre on it
will it look weird the 165 tyre on an alloy wheel ?
u dint say anythin of usin 100 pcd ones..
How long before you can choose the 2nd option?
Dont go for 100 PCD. Many people have tried them, although they say that car runs fine on them, but i doubt it.
The car would wobble on higher speeds with 100 pcd.
sumit
checkout this link
mouthwatering alloy from hr
sai wheels
http://www.teamfiat.co.in/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=159&start=50
please do comment on it and the colour to be selected
then there are two 98pcd options from plati too
http://i56.tinypic.com/2znn0pe.jpg
http://i56.tinypic.com/n52efn.jpg
they say this one is multi pcd model with 8 holes
4 for 100pcd and 4 for 98 pcd
so sumit which would be great one..am waitin for your openion
I like the first design the best (HR from sai mag wheels).
I am not a huge fan of multi-spoke design.
Go for the first design. Last one is good as well.
Your call!!!
hey sumit
i just went out wandering at coimbatore and found out an antenna
it was marked as for palio and punto
looks good and quality also is good
sealed pack
Rs 175/-
gd price na
bt there a screw like portion at the back i think its to tight in the hole
buddy i really thought the oe antenna would be sticker type
and can i fix this our punto
i mean the one without double side sticker and instead with a threaded portion
please reply soon and i could decide
OE or aftermarket both antennas are screw type. There will be a cable that will be attached to the back of your HU.
hey sumit
got some technical info on the stock rims
to fit 195 profile tyres you need a rim with 6J size. (to face no operational issues at all)
IMO all other 14″ stock rims on the punto from Active – Emotion are 5.5J ???
pressed steel & alloy on the Linea 15″ are 6J (including spare & the alloys of Punto Emotion Pk – 6J 15″
so now according to this i would strike off th eplan for upgrading the tyre to 195 size
now the only option would be alloys
but would the stock 165 tyre look weird on the alloy ???
correct me on everything if im wrong
bought a fog lamp after hell of a strugle pal…today it was really a good day
i got the last peace available at tamilnadu and kerala..
full kit cost including silver coloured enclosure+2x foglamp+wier+clips+switch
Rs 3689/-
Thats a bit expensive.
I bought mine for Rs. 2500.
Mine enclosures were black color though.

You are right, for 195 section tyre, you need 6j or 6.5j rims.
The stock tyre, 165 section rubber, look weird anyways, either with or without alloys.
You can get the alloys on stock rubber for now and upgrade the tyres later.
I have bought the FIAT’s GENUINE Central Locking for ACTIVE model.
I have updated the post with details and pictures.
guys, is it worth to take dynamic instead of active model.
the price difference between these two is 35000/-, things to be considered are,
Remote locking build in – worth 1ok
Rear power windows
Dual dash board colour
these are the points i noted between dynamic and active, please advice me to select a good variant, i need to decide before my delivery.
The difference between Active and Dynamic are:
1. Central Locking (Key only, you will still need to get the remote thing installed, which costs 4.5k from FIAT).
2. Rear Power windows.
3. Dual dash color (Personal choice, but I prefer all black dash).
4. Bigger map pockets.
5. Bigger speedometer and tachometer dials with chrome outer ring.
6. Bigger MID display with 2 trip meters and an advanced trip computer.
You have to weigh in the options and choose your preference and decide if all the extra things are worth 35k.
Central locking in the dynamic model is key only. There is no immobilizer or anti-theft alarm installed in it.
thanks for that immediate reply, reg colour choice, right now, the dealer has two colours in bs 3 variants,
minimal grey in dynamic and medium grey in active, which one u suggest ?
I would prefer Medium Grey between the two, since silver and white is very common color, not only in Punto, but other cars as well.
My personal choice is either Exotica Red or Electric Blue.
Sadly, Electric Blue has been discontinued.
Hi Sumit,
Is the performance of the centrol locking good??? I am waiting for a review, before I get one fixed in my punto active.
Also want to get a suggestion on Alloy and Fog lamp.
In my city, I am not getting any accessories from outside shops. not even a radio antenna. I will have to lookup to the dealers for minor things as well.
Regarding Alloys: I dont like the design of the stock alloy. Suggest me some other..can i reuse my stock tyres in an alloy rim?
I have got it installed today.
Its a basic keyless entry system. You get 2 remotes. There is not anti-theft system. But the car comes with immobilizer installed.
The doors do not lock automatically when you start/move the car.
The system gives 4 beeps if any of the doors is open and wont lock the car.
2 additional benefits:
Now all doors show warning on the dashboard if they are open.
Map light comes on when you open any of the doors. Earlier it used to be for front doors only.
All in all, it works perfectly as keyless entry, but there are no additional anti-theft features.
Yes, you can fit the alloy wheels on stock tyres if you are opting for 14″ alloys. If you are going in for 15″, you will need to upgrade the tyres to 15″ as well.
Make sure you buy 98PCD alloys.
http://www.alloywheelsindia.com has good variety in 98PCD and they let you order the wheels online as well.
Thanks Sumit…for such an informative feedback on the CLS…I need to fix this system. so, I will go ahead with that…
Will also see the link for alloys….if i decide to get one…will let u know….
Regarding Fog Lamps: Today I talked to the dealer for the fog lamps…they said…fog lamps cannot be fixed in the active model….but I have seen a set of fog lamp in your active model…any suggestion???
Regards,
Amit
Here in chandigarh, there is only dealer who has fog lamps available.
Please check the spare part section of workshop rather than accessory shop in the showroom.
FIAT does provide fog lamps with complete assembly. Most of the dealers are just too lazy to order them, because it takes ages for their parts to arrive.
Hi Sumit,
I had raised a query to Fiat about the fog lamps. I asked them, whether I can fix a set of fog lamps in my punto Active.
They have responded me with answer. Please suggest.
“Dear Sir,
Thanks for contacting FIAT India. We are in receipt of your mail.
As per your query, Active models do not have a BCM programmed to operate fog lamps hence it is not operational in Active models
Thanking you & assuring you of our best services at all times.
Regards,
Customer Services
Fiat India Automobiles Ltd.
“
The fog lamps not come as an accessory for ACTIVE model. Infact, they come as replacement for the Emotion models.
Thats why I asked you guys to check at spare part shop and not accessory shops.
Fog lamps are directly connected through the battery and a switch, and they run independently.
You can switch off/on the fog lamps even when the key is not inserted.
Fog lamps wont go off automatically when when you switch off the car. You will have to manually switch them off every time you turn off your car.
If you accidentally leave them on, the fuse goes off in a minute or so.
I always have a few spare fuses lying in my car.
You have to compromise when you save money. (:
hai guys,
i have booked emotion variant and im taking delivery tomm., i didnt want to struggle in fitting fog lamps, central locking and changing the tire size
nw checking on the PDI checklist. thanks for ur suggestions in finalising the things.
You are welcome, and great choice.
If I was not on a budget, I myself would have gone for emotion variant.
Its worth the extra premium. Most importantly, you get ABS.
sumit, im taking the car for a long drive immediately abt 500 kms, is that ok?
whts the speed limit i can touch ?
Stick the speed below 80 and more importantly keep a watch on tachometer.
Do not rev your car beyond 2000 RPM.
Avoid sudden acceleration.
Hi Sumit, I saw your post in team bhp and nice to see a wonderful review on Punto. I have medium grey punto 1.3 active and it was around 3 months old and completed around 6500 kms, I am getting a mileage around 18 – 19 km/l overall.
I would like ask a question here to all the punto 1.3 active user, How the AC is working during day time when weather is very hot?? Because my car takes time (approximately 10 – 15 minutes)to cool the cabin and once it is cool then it is ok and I could keep the blower in 2 or 3 point. I found two/three reasons for this and you should be able to judge them.
1. Since is car bigger in size, it is taking time to cool or
2. since I park the car under direct sun light or
3. Since active model does not have rear seat AC blowers?
Any one of you is experiencing same issue or something like I am only the person???
Please suggest me for improvement of AC.
Punto’s a/c does take some time to cool.
The only reason is that they have set the cut off temperature (thermostat) and slightly higher levels.
If you have doubts get it checked at TASS.
Hi Sumit,
Thanks for the reply, night time if put in on 1st point it will be chilled with in five minutes, hence i had a doubt of day time.
Get it checked at the service centre.
Let us know by posting here what did they tell you.
sumit, im taking delivery of my car today, i went to see the car, the car has run 125 kms so far, is that ok to take the delivery ?
Sometimes the yard for the dealers is located outside city and its normal to have upto 150 kms on the odo.
hi sumit bhai…..long time na…my broadband lines were cut off due to road widening process and it took half a month to patch it up…..
ive got my car and its cool..
i gave the showroom guys the antennna and the foglamp with all necessary things including wires that too 2 days prior to the delivery..
crooks disappointed me on the delivery date 3 hours late delivery
night time delivery
dint fix the fog lamp because they dont have a couple couplers to connect from fog lamp to wire
dint paint the door handles( the reason they told was it would take time to dry up)
freebies where floor mat( they say floor mat but i would say pieces of sack painted black)
mud flaps(no oe ones–for punto ones )
totallly …………………………….weird guys
Congratulations on your new car.
Which color did you go for?
Plan to buy punto 1.3 mjd , needs abs , ebd , & alloys + 195/60 R15 , USB port for music system
Airbags not essential
Should i go for Emotion / Emotion pack to get best value for money ?
Any one aware about launch date for Punto EVO ? any idea about approx. pricing ( I can wait for couple of month , if it is worth for )
According to your requirements E-Pack is the best option for you.
Punto EVO is not coming to India.
The best we will get is Punto 90HP which is already available.
I am not yet fully conversant with car driving ( learning yet ) & don’t think I’will be driving over 120kmph , is Punto 90 hp recommended for me ?
But one day I am sure that you will, after your learning process is over.
If you can afford 90HP, by all means go for it.
Punto FGT (76BHP) is good too, 90HP has better drive ability.
Hi sumit,
I got my new fiat grande punto 1.3(emotion, tuscan wine) on sept3.
This review was of great help. Thanks for the review.
Tyre size in my vehicle is 165/80 R14, I thought I would be getting 175/70 tires. When I talked to the showroom guy he said the company has changed the tire size to 165/80 for Active,Dynamic and Emotion variants from last month.
But the car manual specifies the size as 175/70 for emotion variant. Also when I was comparing other specifications I noticed that stabiliser bar has been removed from rear suspension.
Thanks
Emotion variant is now provided with 165/80-R14 tyres. You can check the same on FIAT website.
I am not aware of any stabilizer bar. Can you be specific for its purpose? And, is it still there in E-Pack variant?
I don’t know the purpose of this bar. Even E-pack variant doesn’t have this. I was just going through the old specs and new specs in which I saw the following difference for Rear suspension,
Torsion Beam, Helical springs& Double Acting Telescopic Dampers and stabilizer bar –>(old spec)
Torsion Beam, Helical springs& Double Acting Telescopic Dampers –>(new spec)
Also weight of the car has changed,
Kerb weight(kg) – 1130 (new spec)
Kerb weight (kg) – 1190 (old spec)
hummmmmmm………
Could be the cost cutting, or maybe that bar did not serve any purpose.
so how to find mine..i mean which one among this would be my car …any idea..its euro 4 and i got it delvered before hardly 20 days
the stabiliser bar do exists in punto all models, I ve seen in fiat punto brochure & also confirmed with sales guy
I don’t think fiat will ever compromise on essentials .
hey sumit i thought u would wait until the price of the central locking system go down. what made you to rethink and go for this heavy upgrade ( i meant spending 10k for an autocop central locking system ) /??
I was tired of locking and unlocking my car with key.
Had to check all doors every time I parked my car.
Moreover, I inquired with AUTOCOP people, they told me that the central locking would not be available outside for 6 more months.
So, I decided to go for it.
yeah me too its very difficult to check all the doors….then i have another problem cant we lock the driver door from inside…..i think we cant n only way is to lock it from outside..i mean with the key..
then how much did it cost the central locking system incl service charges ??
Thats the feature in all FIAT cars.
You cannot lock the driver side door from inside, its there to ensure that you do not forget your keys inside the car.
Central locking costed me Rs. 9500/- inclusive of installation charges.
plan to install forward , reverse sensors + rearview cameras on punto,
most of car acc. shop tells that forward sensors will create un-necessary distrubances in traffic,
But problem is that I don’t find an system with 4 rear + 2 forward + rear camera intregrated in single lcd,
BTW is it worth fitting rear view camera ? or 6 sensors are just fine ?
needs comment on forward sensors.
Please do not install the front sensors.
They are quite a nuisance in bumper to bumper traffic.
Rear sensors as fine. Even 2 are fine at rear, 4 are more than enough.
Camera is a good option, but i personally find it useless in hatchbacks.
sensors are available along with camera…
checkout “HIKER EXTREME”
the brand that manufactures sporty crash guards, beedings etc….
im using(same variant of punto as sumit bai uses) a worldtech brand camera + Mirror lcd with bluetooth facility(handsfree carkit),video playback
which costed me 5k including the installation
i would say go for a camera or go for hiker camera with sensor…
drive safe pals
from where did u get it installed ?

Hello, Am a Fiat fan too, i have Fiat Palio Sports 1.2nv Galaxy black petrol model 2005, want to move to Punto multijet basic model can’t afford a emotion or even dynamic as of now, am from Bangalore what would you suggest i want to sell the Palio or exchange it for Punto from Fiat dealer or should i not, looked out for other cars one being the VW Polo & Ford Ikon Tdci & Figo, Figo is minus on built Ikon is old, VW Polo !! being Fiat fan and strong feel of the car makes me come back to Fiat and look at nothing, not many reviews out about Punto on web most of them doesn’t seem right since Fiat service and mileage always been a concern, your review is clear and good but stil do advise, will T-Jet Punto come to indian market do you any idea, awaiting response Thanks.
There are no plans for T-Jet Punto as of now.
Polo is a good choice as well, but it has a 3-pot engine which really lacks in refinement. And I feel its a little bit expensive too. Also, Polo would be expensive to maintain in terms of spares and service (being VW/SKODA) when compared to Punto.
Do not hesitate in terms of mileage. Their Mujtijet engine is ding duty in many Indian cars. You can easily expect 15-18kmpl in city and 18-25kmpl on highways, the mileage would vary on your driving style.
Their service is not an issue for me, availability of spares is a bit a problem though. But, you have been driving FIAT for almost 5 years now, I think you are the best judge about the service.
The ride quality and handling is THE BEST amongst competition.
Yes Polo Trendline at Bangalore 6,56,895/- on road and Punto Active on road – 6,24,441/- as of today about 32,000/- difference, as you pointed out Polo is indeed 1.2 – 3 cylinder engine i haven’t really tested the polo in detail just took a ride the other day, still am happy with Punto, thank you for your review and comments i bet many are satisfied who had doubts looking at other shining car brand logo’s around.
hai sumit,
im njoying my drive with punto emotion, i want to ask u whtr u are convinced with ac chilling in ur car.
im nt getting chillness at all, when i went to the service centre, they said the cut off shld be arnd 6 or 6.5 but mine is happening at 10 itself, they said they have writted to FIAT reg this and managed to bring it near 8.5.
I have heard abt the chillness problem in TBHP with petrol versions.
so jsut wanted to ask u guys whtr u heard or experienced this issue bfr ?
There is a problem with AC in petrol punto and linea.
Infact, I read it in autocar (this month’s issue), that FIAT has found a solution and they are replacing some parts.
Here is their exact press release:
“Growing customer complaints of poor cooling, especially in the 1.2 punto and 1.4 petrol linea, has forced the company to redesign the entire HVAC system. All fiats now sold will come with new air-conditioning units which include a new variable compressor and a beefed up condenser unit.
However, for existing owners, fiat is planning to retrofit a kit that will have all the parts of the new air con system to sort out the problem.
This process could take a couple of months and will begin in regions where ambient temperatures are hotter than elsewhere. “
hi sumit
long time man…havin sem exams
then whats about our a/c is it fine or will it tobe replaced.
i dont know the actual performance of my a/c as we are not from a high temperature area..
what is ur opinion of a/c fixed in multijets ??
I dont think MJDs have ac problems, but you can get it check at TASS.
I got my Punto 1.3 MJD E Pk. Medium Grey Y’day , & I must share u my exp. about AC , MY PARENTS WERE ON BACK SEATs & I’ve to set the temp to 23-24deg. to make them feel comfortable, myself on front seat can’t bear 18deg.
Cooling is fantastic , It just takes not more than 2 min. to cool the cabin on a hot sunny afternoon.
If u feel there is cooling prblm. consult TASS
BTW u can follow this link to view first snaps.

Hi Sumit, following your page back after a long time. How r u?
These days I am in Gurgaon due to change in work location. My car is yet to arrive here. I will have to park my vehicle on road during night hours as parking is not available at owners house. I was advised by my landlord to get a gear lock for my car. Is it advisable to install a gear lock? Which make of gear lock works good and is available in market? How much does it cost generally?
Thanks !!
Amit
I am good Amit, how are you?
Yea, Gear lock is good if you are parking your car outside.
AUTOCOP makes good gear locks, it should cost between Rs. 1000-1500.
hi…
my punto 1.2 active wud b due for 2nd service next week(odo reading 8500kms)…
i want to know wht r the things shud be taken care of.. whether they charge for tyre rotation and wheel alignment..
and lastly the steering wheel slightly tilted towards left side.. wht cud b the problem???
Just do whatever is written in the service book.
Tyre rotation and alignment should be done and steering tilting towards left is an alignment issue.
Hey Sumit! Somehow,I landed at your site and after reading almost every comment and your punto experience,I finally decided to ask something. Here it goes…
We booked for Punto Active 1.3 MJD thelast week i.e 9-3-2011,and while we booked we had chosen “Tuscan Wine” but off-late my dad wasn’t really convinced about it. The dealer had said that he would take 8-10 days to get my vehicle delivered. But the confusion was still on and we visited the showroom twice/thrice number of times. Each time we visited we were adviced that dark color cars usually have less resale value and they tend to attract more heat, scratches are easily visible etc etc. So we were forced to go for the lighter shades i.e bossanova white or minimal grey i.e silver. But my dad ain’t happy about white nor me as well and more its an usual colour. I want my machine to be unique. So,I’m undecided about my colour.. Just help me deciding my colour.. (No silver as we recently sold our Silky Silver Alto). And yeah, fox trot azure has caught my attentions.. Tell me ,what ye feel about it? And yeah, even I plan to get the ORVM,door handles coloured to the body colour.
Hi
I am sorry, I somehow missed your comment. You must have made your choice by now. Anyhow, here is my reply:
Tuscon wine is a nice color too. But I am not too fond of it.
Choosing a color is a personal choice. Someone might like one color and another person might not like it.
About the dark color attracting more heat and small scratches being visible more is true.
I will give you my color choices in my order of preference:
1. Blue (Sadly discontinued)
2. Exotica Red
3. Hip Hop Black
4. Fox Trot Azure
5. Medium Grey
6. Bossa Nova White
7. Minimal Grey
Hey guys…i have booked a Multijet Active Exotica Red..but sadly none of the dealers in hyderabad had a version available so that i can check in person….so would appreciate if any of the owners here can throw some light on the MJD Active model:
1. Is the quality/finish of the interior plastic same as that of other variants. I understand that the emotion version comes wth dual tone and fabric inserts. but my question was whether the plastic feels/looks the same (matt finish with soft feel)
2. Does it have a passenger side vanity mirror?
3. Does it have remote fuel/boot opener? (one site mentioned that it doesnt have it..i was shocked)
4. Any other after market options for central locking?
5. Does it have cup holders?
appreciate your responses
Hi Shekhar
Congrats on booking a new car.
Here are the answers to your queries:
1. The quality/finish of the plastics is same as in top end models. As you have mentioned, the difference would be the dual tone and fabric inserts in door pads.
2. Nopes, there is no passenger side vanity mirror. Although, you can change the sun shade with that of a higher model in your car. Costs around about Rs. 500-600.
3. remote fuel lid as well as boot opener is present in the basic/active model.
4. No other options other than the one sold by FIAT. The prices have come down a bit, costs Rs. 8000 now.
5. It sure has the cup holders.
Cheers!!!!
hey sumit
thanks for your response and wishes.
but today i finally got to check a fiat punto red active (petrol version) in the dealers stock yard..and yes what you said was bang on.
The fiat guys should do a lot more on their brochures and information.
there is no mention of things like
- Remote fuel/boot lid opener
- Sunvisors
- Day/Night Rare view mirrors
- Internal wiring for stereo system (if present or not)
- Driver information system (miles to empty/ current driving average etc..recently updated on the site, not present in the brochure)
- cup holders
- extra glove box incase of active/dynamic
- Rear windows open only 70%
- location of power window buttons (near the center console or on the door windows)
i know we can take these for granted but in the indian market ..we are used to car manufactures not giving the ‘rear parcel tray’ n ‘gear rod cover’ in the basic versions…so i hesitated to take these things for granted..n to add to my worries….some websites had misleading information stating these were not available.
i have few questions for you..
1. the dealer mentioned that fiat warranty gets void if we use the teflon coating (since it is considered as an abrasive material on the paint) and hence they have stopped giving the free teflon coating..
2. also i believe the underbody now comes with the anti-rust treatment done…so do i need to get it done again?
3.Does it have internal wiring for the stereo system?
Thanks once again Sumit
You are right, the salesperson at the dealerships do not take their job seriously. They should be through with the car details in each variant.
Anyhow, here are the answers:
1. I dont know about the teflon coating voiding any warranty, the dealer gave it free to me at the time of purchase.
I anyways find it an eyewash. Its not really worth it and can be avoided.
2. There is no need to get the underbody treatment done. The car already has some kind of coating. But even if you decide to get it done, it wont do any harm.
If you live in coastal area, then I would recommend you to get a 3M underbody coating done.
3. Yes, the wiring is there for the music system.
hey sumit
i finally got my punto delivered on april 20th..its a beauty!!
but have been scouting for some enhancements…and some confusion as well
1. the punto active central locking kit (part#59116853) is the only central locking available for punto. However, was surprised to hear from the service rep that even installing this ‘approved genuine spare part’ would void the warranty as this would mean tampering with the standard wiring..is this true..as it is not mentioned anywhere on the fiat site
2. Planning to put a JVC KD-R426 head unit with JBL infinity 6″ components at the front door and 6″ coaxials at the rear door.
Do i need an amp for this configuration? secondly, will getting rid of the comp still give me the same quality of sound? Any idea on how much this config may cost?
Appreciate your help buddy
Cheers!
Hi
Congratulation on your new car.
1. The FIAT Authorized central locking would not void the warranty. Get it fitted from the showroom and get the bill. Atleast it did not void any warranty in my case.
If I remember correctly there was no wire cut during installation. The genuine autocop kit for Active model come with all male/female connectors and jacks.
2. 6.5″ components are coaxials are direct fit, do not go for 6″.
Components make hell lot of difference to the sound. As with all components, you need an amplifier to perform what they are capable of.
Without an amplifier your components would perform to 30-40% of their actual capability of Detail, bass, treble and loudness.
Component kits start at 4-5k. A decent components would set you back by 8-9k.
I would suggest you to try some different brand other than JBL/Infinity.
Go for Rainbow Titans or entry level DD. Both are 8-9k. DD have more bass.
Hi!
What a valuable information on Punto Active with series and serious workings.. Thanks
Back to the point, I am also a proud owner of Fiat 1.3MJD Active. I picked this beauty in 2009 after short usage of many maruti cars like ALTO, WAGON R, AGAIN ALTO etc., Usually I will change my car once in a year (annual drive so far minimum is 15K and max is 36K), but presently retaining PUNTO for its sheer performance and its characteriestics.
From 2009 dec to till date, my odo reading is at 25,800. I had problem with the stock tyres (jk).the front two tyres worn out completely inside and time came to replace. checked with concorde and got reply that the worn out was because of change in wheel alignment.
Hence i am planning to give complete make shift of my car (MINIMAL GREY) in stages,
1.Alloys (14″ or 15″ – which is best and which company, as these chennai dealers has standard rate of 5000/alloy of any brand)
2. Tyres (planning for apollo, is it ok)
3. Central locking (auto cop or with dealer)
4.Front fog lights
5.Body graphics (not yet decided and keep on searching)
Could you please help me with ur wide experience to share with me to finalise the above.
1. 15″ Alloys, make sure you buy the 98 PCD rims.
2. I would suggest you to go for 195/60-R15. This is the stock tyre in Punto Emotion Pack. Provides excellent grip and confidence inspiring handling.
Here is the choice of tyre brands preference wise:
Michelin, Continental, Yokohama, Bidgestone.
3. I would suggest you to get the central locking fitted from the dealership.
Its a product from autocop, but specifically made for Punto Active. Cost: Rs. 8500 (incl labor).
4. I doubt you will find the fog lamps from your local accessory shop. You will have to get the fog lamps from dealership too.
5. I am not much into body graphics. Its a personal taste. I like to keep things simple. If you like them, go ahead!!!
Its a beautiful car, why ruin it!!!
Thanks for the valuable info. Will go ahead as per the suggestions given by you.
The one thing which i forget to ask you about the compatibility and need for PETE’s tuning box with K&N filter. Some says that as better fitment to existing car and some others say as unnecessary as the punto excels in performance already.
could you please throw some light on this
There is quite a lot of difference in performance.
If you have driven a swift, you will know the difference in the performance.
Swift uses the same engine, but has better gear ratios which makes it go faster.
With Pete’s and K&N the car does not seem obviously different through the first two gears and then the change is evident. In the third gear the car seems to be wanting to take off and the in gear acceleration times tumble by a significant margin. The engine note improves and the feeling of driving a petrol car seems to déjà vu through one’s mind. The harder you go on the accelerator, the engine sounds all the more sweet and you start moving faster.
The box cuts 4 seconds off the Punto’s 0-100 time with a ton coming up in 13.5 seconds. In gear acceleration is faster and the car pulls massively in 5th gear. Infact the box is so addictive you would find yourself speeding on most occasions without any reason whatsoever.
Hi wonderful review !
I’m planning to buy a new car and in a fix to choose between Fiat Multijet Emotion or wait for the new Swift that is set to roll out.
I’m in love with the Punto styling and handling. The engine will not have a problem, which I’m sure however the ASS in Bangalore is a worry from Tata.
Would you recommend I wait for Swift, even though I’m not too found of design and just pick it up for the ASS
Hi Sumit!
Its wonderful platform created by you. I have recently purchased Punto MJD and now in a stage of complete confusion regarding accesories. Kindly suggest me for the following:
1. Gear Lock (the biggest issue): which type of gear lock( U or pin). If U it will it spoil the beauty?? Where to get installed in delhi or noida??
2. Seat Cover: Autofoam is my preference. Kindly suggest shld i get it customized.
3. Central locking: Dealer does not hav stock. Taken from outside will void the waranty. Please suggest
4. Please suggest the sound system in budget of 10k with bluetooth feature.
Looking forward to ur enriched response.
Hi Sumit,
I follow Team-Bhp regularly, but this is the blog i am searching since ages. Your Punto Looks great and the information too.
I Will be booking Fiat punto emotion next week.
I need your advice on following points.
1) How far the comfort / Interiors of Emotion better than Active.
2) Is ABS/EBD needed for travelling speeds at 90KM/hr.
3) In Active variant, can we avail central locking kit ( After Market one) as one key ( I Mean same as in Emotion/ Emotion pack).
With Best Regards,
Shashank
Thanks for your comment.
Here are the answers:
1. Comfort level would be same. Active and emotion have same seats and ergonomics, only the fabric on the seats is different. But, you do get more level of equipment in emotion.
2. Yes, ABS is required even at the speed of 50-60. It prevent your steering from getting locked. ABS swings into action when you are involved in sudden braking in wet conditions etc. It would make sure that your car stops in a straight line.
3. Nopes, you will get a separate autocop remote if going for CL in active model. Only get the CL from FIAT, costs Rs. 8500.
Hi Sumit,
Thanks for the reply.
However i changed my option to Active as difference between active and emotion is coming around Rs90-95k.
If they offered alloys i would have gone
for emotion.
Can u tell me which alloys are suitable
for active other than Fiat made.
My budget would be 25k.Can we get good alloys
and tyres in this budget.
Please suggest.
Go for 15″ or 14″ 98PCD rims. HRS (Hijoin) makes 98 PCD rims.
Tyre size:
14″ – 185/70-R14
15″ – 195/60-R15
http://www.alloywheelsindia.com has good designs.
Hi Sumit,
I Booked Active Today.
I wanted to paint front grills to silver color.
Dealer is quoting me around 2k including Door handles and OVRM.
Central Locking Rs 8750.
Seat Covers quoted around Rs 12k for the best rated & Rs 5800 for other one.
Mudflaps and Floor mats Rs 1360.
Is this fair deal or should i negotiate further on accessories.
Regards,
Shashank
Seat covers are expensive.
The seat covers that they are offer are autoform and they are available outside for half the price.
Mudflaps are floor mats are fine at that price if they are genuine fiat accessory. Save the picture of accessories from the fiat website on your mobile and compare it with what they are offering at dealership.
Many dealers across India sell the cheap imitations of mudflaps and floor mats.
Central locking is Rs. 8500.
When I bought my new car I got the door handles and ORVMs painted free of cost and also got the floor mats, mudflaps and body cover complimentary.
Hi Sumit,
Thank you for your suggestions.
One more question.
Can 185/70-R14 tyres can be fitted to stock rims which comes in Active model?
Regards,
Shashank
Yes, you can!!!
Hi Sumit,
My Punto Active-white delivered yesterday.
I am planning to fit Central Locking. Can u suggest if we can install other than FIAT branded Autocop.
Shall we use others in market.
please advice.
Hey Shshank
i just got one fixed for my active at the fiat dealer. The priced of the component is 8490 and the dealer charged me 260 as fitting charges. Which i am not sure is a standard practice or not since no details are mentioned on Fiat website.
As far as i understand, this is the only product that you can fit as the this comes shipped with the manual activators which are not available with a third party products.
At the current moment you do not have much of choice but to fix this as i did a lot of inquiries before finally sticking to the fiat product.
Cheers!
Enjoy your Punto
Shekhar is right.
All the central locking solutions available from outside do not have accutators.
And it would not work properly.
Get it fitted from the dealership only.
hey guys
i recently noticed that the cars undercarriage keeps rubbing over speed breakers and when i am on bumpy roads..these are not really big humps..did any one of u too notice the low ground clearance of Punto? i have hte April 2011 version.not sure if they have made any changes in this version
on another note, do you recall if the wiring for antenna is already provided in the active model?
Cheers!
Puntos front bumper is low and gets scrapped easily.
Wiring is there for the antenna I think. Get it fitted from outside.
At dealership it costs around 2k. I got mine fitted from an accessory shop for Rs. 100 and works perfectly.
thanks sumit…
if the wiring for antenna is already there then i guess i need to check the connection at the head unit.
not much i can do about the front bumper touching. gotta be careful i guess
Hi Sumit
I have booked my MJD Active. Is Fiat OE Central locking still your choice for the Active or are there any new models of central locking available in the market???
Nopes, you would have to get the central locking installed from the dealership itself.
There are no aftermarket options available as of yet.
Hi Sumit
I am planning to buy a Punto Diesel … Earlier I was planning to buy an Emotion but after reading your post I feel is it okay to go in for Active model and have all the installations done ….How much will it cost to upgrade an active model to Emotion making all the modifications and adding accessories?
On other note…how has your general experience been? and are you happy with the car.. i hv heard people complaining on these points:1) A/c not being as effective and is noisy at times
2)Engine is noisy
3) Mileage is not as great as swift
4) After sale service
And ur passion for vehicles and effort to put up this forum is commendable..good job:)
dear,
following are your points:
1) A/c not being as effective and is noisy at times
2)Engine is noisy
3) Mileage is not as great as swift
4) After sale service
i have active model 2011:
AC IS V GOOD AND NOISY AT HIGH SPEED ONLY AS OTHERS.
TURBO ENGINE IS ALWAYS BIT NOISY BUT U WILL NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM IN YOUR CABIN.
IF MILEAGE IS 2 KM PER LITRE IS LESS THEN SWIFT THEN HV DIFFERENCE ALSO FOR 1 LAKH FOR NEW MODEL.
THR IS NO COMPARISON FOR ITS RIDE QUALITY AS WELL AS GREAT BODY BUILD WHICH IS APPROX. 240 KG MORE THEN SWIFT.
AT EVERY TATA SERVICE STATION THR IS DEDICATED TEAM FOR FIAT SO NO ISSUE AS WE HAVE TO VISIT THR ONCE IN 15000 KM RIDE.
BL MEITS GREAT DECISION TO GO FOR PUNTO

Hey Ashish
Thanks for sharing your views, I have made up my mind…I would most likely go for a Punto emotion..if its ok I’ll give u a call to ask ur ownership experience first hand..thanks
Rgds,
Harsh
You cannot add a few things that emotion has, e.g.
1. Steering mounted controls
2. ABS
3. Bigger MID and dials
4. Dual tone interiors
To name a few.
If you have the budget, go for Emotion.
1. AC is fine and not noisy. Blower gets a bit noisy at speed 3 and 4, but thats same with all the cars.
2. More than the engine, the radiator fan is noisy, but NVH levels are high and hardly listen anything inside the cabin.
3. Mileage is a bit low than swift due to additional wait and short gear ratios. But you get a sturdy and a better built car that handles very well (handling and steering best in sub 10L range).
4. A.S.S would depend on your local service centre. Mine is very good and has good staff. Although, it can be a problem in certain places.
Hey Sumit
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
I am planning to buy emotion but the only problem is the factory fitted music player doesn’t have device pairing and usb facility. While i would not want to purchase emotion pack for just this reason.
What do you suggest is better to go for dynamic and install central locking and music system from outside or go for emotion. Also is it possible to enable device pairing in the music system that comes factory installed.
btw I too am from chandigarh but working in bangalore so i’ll be purchasin car frm bnglr and that hits my wallet by around 90k more than wht it wud ve done at home
I would suggest you to go for Emotion model.

Dear Sir,
First of all I thank you for providing much of the information on Punto. I am Manipal and I have booked Punto Emotion Diesel Fox Trot Azure and proud for booking it. Could you please help me out on following:
1. I am planning to go for 15″ alloys. Please give me the specification for the same(PCD, no. of holes). Also, suggest best alloy I should go for along with good designs with price range(but should be cheaper than the alloys from Fiat)
2. What should be my bargain for the stock tyres and rims.
3. As punto emotion doesnt come with USB and Bluetooth options, what should be the options so as to attain these features. One car accessories guy said if i fix up Reverse Parking Sensor, it has got these options. In that case, if go for it, whether the warranty will void?
4. Which accessory is cheap and best to have GPS navigation kit? Is there any accessory available in market, which serves the all 4 purpose(bluetooth, usb, reverse parking sensor, GPS).
5. Lastly, what are the inspections I need to do before the delivery?
Thank in advance.
Congratulations for booking the car.
1. 98PCD, 6.5J width, 195/60-R15.
Check the alloys on alloywheelsindia.com.
There is one white and black alloy in 15″. Its a really good design. Currently, only HRS alloys are available in India in 98PCD.
2. Rs. 1800 for the tyre and Rs. 150-200 for steel rim.
3. You cannot attach BT or USB to stock music system. Aftermarket FM USB transmitters are available, but you will get radio quality signal.
Parking sensors wont void the warranty.
4. MapmyIndia is your best bet for GPS, it does come with Bluetooth option. But, no GPS device can cater to USB and parking sensors as well.
PDI
Final Inspection:
1. Check the car again: A lot could have happened between the pre-registration inspection and today. It’s best to walk around the car and ascertain that the car is super clean! Look for any signs of repair work / damage such as paint difference, dents etc. Even the interiors should be squeaky clean.
2. Check that all lights and electric accessories are working fine.
3. Confirm that all the accessories you ordered are fitted on the car.
4. Check that the spare wheel is fresh. And that all related tools (spanner, jack etc.) are present. Are there wheel locks? If so, ensure that the lug key is there in the car.
5. Misc : Wipers, floor matting, first-aid kit & hazard sign.
6. What is the mileage on your car? It should not be more than a 100 km (or in the whereabouts) for most brands.
7. Ensure that there is enough fuel in the car. At least to get you to the nearest petrol pump.
8. Somehow, most new cars are delivered with over-inflated tyres by the showroom. Check the tyre pressure and make the necessary adjustments.
9. Tally your car’s registration number on the R.C. Book, with the number plate. Dealers are known for their carelessness here. One BHPian was about to take delivery of his car with different numbers on the front & rear plates!
Dear Sir,
Thank you spending your valuable time and providing me upto the point suggestions which is very much useful to me. My Punto has arrived to showroom. I am taking delivery on Monday. I will take a print-out of your suggested inspections with me. I Will post the pics later.
Few more querries:
1. What are the accessories given with the car(I saw in one blog saying a spare mirror will also be provided)
2. Is it possible to fix different mud-flap than the one comes with Punto(as it looks longer like a tail)
3. Whether the lights of Punto are sufficient bright (as some blogs suggested alteration)
Thanks in advance
1. Mud flaps, floor mats, body cover, number plates is what they offer here in Chandigarh. Might vary from city to city and dealership to dealership.
2. Just leave the mud flaps, they look ugly on punto. The OE mud flaps are too big. If you want them, try some aftermarket mud flaps.
3. Lights are sufficiently bright. I have been using them without any problem for more than 1.5 years.
If you get the bulbs changed, the service light would come up on your bash and wouldnt go no matter what you do.
Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for valuable suggestions.
Firstly Congr8s for your new punto….there is no doubt that this is the best car in its class, even I am a proud owner of White Punto active Diesel. Currently have run 10,000Kms on the ODO and have taken this car upto 150KMPH with no shivering and no problems at all, Thumbs up for this car.
Yup, its a great car.
Hi Sumit,
How are you man. My Punto done with 4000 KMs.
It is due for service in another 1000KM.
Can u guide what are precautions and checks to be done
on First Service.
Regards,
Shashank Reddy
There is not much to do in first service.
They will just clean the air filter, top-up the oil and do a wash.
Keep a note of the problems (if any) you have faced and get them rectified.
I own a 1.3 Active, I bought the front fog lamps, but i see that it doesn not have the cover around the light(silver color in emotion). Where will I get it? Is it availale outside to purchase?
You will have to buy that from the showroom.
Hi Sumit,
I need your help, I have decided to go for a punto active/dynamic 1.3 Bossa novea white.
I need your valuable time since i’m gonna be new driver.
1.Which dealer do you prefer in Bangalore, Closest is Concorder mysore road & Prerana west of chord road.
Both delaers almost give the same qoute.
2.Which finance would you suggest me. I will making a Dp of 2 lakh.
3.for Bossa nova white what mods would you suggest.

1. You would need to check with someone local. I have no idea about blr dealers.
2. Nationalized banks are very transparent and very competitive as far as interest rate is concerned.
3. Black tints and some good looking black wheels with a mirror lip.
Body colored handles & OVRMS (are they reqd for my BNW) price? – Yes, should cost around 2k.
front grills to silver (are they reqd for my BNW) price? – Keep them black.
central locking – Yes, go for genuine FIAT central locking.
Remote locking – Same as above
fog lights – if you can live without them
rear spoiler – not necessary
alloys(need some gyaan on this as im a complete beginner with the terms, best alloys and place to purchase, stock tyres resale value?) – 98 PCD 195/60-R15 or 185/70-R14 checkout alloywheelsindia.com. They are the only ones who have 98PCD
Music system components( pls help with the model name and dealer to purchase from) – Kenwood 7016 head unit, Rainbow dreamline, Bull audio Amp, Woofer of your choice
leather seats(art leather preferably, dealer & price) – AUTOFORM, around Rs. 6500

On a white or silver car, black grill looks best.
You cannot get it replaced, but you can always get them painted black.
Yes, You can replace them, the new one with silver color cost 1300 with out FIAT logo, checked with concorde motors, Bangalore
Hi Sumit,
You’ve written a very good article and after reading it, I am planning to zero down my search to Punto. I like Swift much but waiting period these days is too much. I have certain doubts to clear, please help. Just to give you some background, I stay in Delhi and have been driving Honda city (bigger one with crystal lights)since 2003. I have maintained it very good and till now its giving me the mileage of 15Km/ltr (in city). As you are aware petrol prices are sky rocketing these days so I am planning to buy a good powerful diesel hatchback (my daily run is 80kms). My main problem is I am getting very apprehensive if after driving honda for all these years will I be able to adjust to a diesel hatch in terms of power & drive quality.
Please share your experience with Punto in terms of mileage, after sale service & maintainence expenses. Since you are driving this car for more than a year now, looking forward for your expert feedback
Hi Gaurav
You would definitely need to adjust your driving style when shifting from petrol to diesel.
Power would be lesser, but you would have more torque.
Fuel economy is around 17-18 in city and 22-24 on highways.
FIAT have a bad reputation when it comes to aftersales service. Having said that, it depends on your local dealer as well. Mine is a good one and havent faced any issues in servicing department so far. Parts have been readily available.
Its a wonderful car to drive. Swift is faster, punto handles well and has a great suspension.
Best of luck!!!
Hi summit.. im very very much confused what wil be d perfect fit diesel car for me.. i prefer a good pickup, mileage and a low maintainance. and not even a high budget.
im stucked in punto, swift vdi 2011 or chevy’s beat.
punto’s mileage is around 20kmpl
swift vdi 2011 mlge is 22.9kmpl
and chevy beat is 24kmpl.
Am stucked now what to opt for?
Am love speed (not much than 140)
but i used dzire and my first time bad experience was dzire turtles when we apply brake.
i drive my dad’s fiesta. i have very much comfort in driving that. but eventually fords maintainance is too high.
and dont know about the maintainance of any..
But wil be very greatfull if u suggest me.
Swift has better gear ratios (specially in first two gears).
Punto has better ride quality and handling.
Both are same maintenance wise.
any idea more on figo and beat ???
Hello Fiat Owners,
I am planning to buy a Punto 1.3 active model in Bangalore. Can you please share what is the best price in Bangalore now and which showroom is giving the best price, I checked with some show room, all are telling diff price.
Need to get the Door handle and OVRM paint done, any pointes in Bangalore other than the show room. Show room people are asking for 3.5K for this job.
PLease share Punto Diesel fuel economy in Bangalore like city condition.
I purchased Fiat Punto in Sep from kht motors, I did a fair amount of research that time and Prerana motors gave me the lowest quote…it was 1000 rs less than kht …but since kht is nearer to my residence I preferred them. You need to bargain hard on the accessories though…n try to make it a good deal. No idea on the door handle but I guess you can check out in lalbagh area…there’s a big motor market in that area.
I drive in the city during peak traffic hours witha/c on…my fuel economy is 14.5 to 16 kmpl and am yet to go in for first servicing.
Thanks for ur reply and congrats for ur new car. Can you please share what accessories you got for free from K.H.T motors.and what extra accessories you put.
Which model u have purchased. Share some photos also.
MY house is also near to KHT motors, I am also planning to go with KHT motors.

Hi Sumit bhai,
I have doubt on central locking functioning in Active Model.
I have installed fiat authorised on my Active MJD.
But it is having only driver door sensor as a result the beep
alarm dont get turn on when ever other door locks are opened.
Eg : If i opened passenger door and if driver door is closed and if i
press button LOCK then all four doors are getting locked.
I expressed same doubt to technician when installing the CL.
He told me that there are no additional hole to insert sensor wire .
So as to drill hole.
Can u tell me how the CL functioning in your Car.
Regards,
Shashank Reddy
My car is yet to deliver on coming Monday, Even I too waana know about Active CL. Any active user can share his/her exp.
How much is the CL costing now, and how much is the labor charge for the installation. (Need to check the Active CL installation in Bangalore)
I am planning to put JBL GT X555 Hu and JBL speakers, please share ur exp if anybody is using it. I will surely update my exp in the near future.
Active central locking costs around Rs. 8500 which includes the labor and tax.
Make sure you get it fitted from TATA/FIAT service center.
It works as advertised.
@Shashank
They have not installed sensors on all doors.
I have an active model and FIAT fitted CL and the alarm/beep works with all doors, even the boot.
Hi Sumit,
Then shall i compliant to AUTOCOP regarding this matter.
Shashank
Yes, you can contact them directly.
They are the ones who are going to fix it.
Sir,
I wanted a diesel hatchback as my daily commute had increased to 60+ kms. I had an option of either a swift, a punto and a figo. The swift’s waiting period was too long and unacceptable to my family. None of us ever liked the figo. Plus I was getting an instant delivery of the punto. I thoroughly went through your ownership experience and decided on a bossanova white punto emotion di.
I bought the car from patiala (as dad knew the dealer there). Got it for 5.75 ex-showroom n finaly 5.95 on-road. The car was delivered to me here (in noida) within a couple of days on 7th of August.
Now, my daily commute is on the noida-greater noida Xpressway along with a couple ov trips to jaipur every other weekend.
I did my running-in religiously and started driving fast only after 6000kms on my odo.
I get my car serviced at oberoi cars, noida and my experience there has been more than satisfactory (that was the only thing I was concerned about while deciding to opt for a fiat!!)
During my 5000 km service, all minor issues such as the door handle not opening smoothly, etc were resolved free of cost.
I must say, I love the handling of the car and simply adore how it can take on corners even at very high speeds. Just need to upgrade the tyres which I’ll do after the stock ones wear out.
My daily commute involves high speed driving (I sometimes reach 130 without realising it!!) and I must say the punto’s very stable at high speeds. I’ve touched a max of 170kmph in my car!!
I’m getting an overall mileage of around 17-19. (P.S.- everyone in my family is an aggressive driver!!)
The issues I really need to discuss are:
1. During my first service, the guys topped up the engine oil (arnd a litre) and now my oil level has dropped again (have done 11000 kms) and they again had to top up around a litre. The service guys said that as per the company, it was normal to lose 250ml oil per 1000kms. Is that true??
2. The audio quality of the original speakers is not very good. They don’t have any bass at all!!
I was thinking of installing a Fusion Basepack (costs arnd 7500) but was advised against it by the service guys as any cut to any wire would lapse my warranty for that circuit.
The other alternative was to change the speakers. The punto comes with 6″ round speakers in all doors. I could install components but those are very expensive.(6-7000 for a set of 2!!)
Now my question is, if I install pioneer or jbl (2/3 way) coaxials, would I get a decent output?? (They’ll also cost me arnd 6-7k, but for 4!!)
Regards,
Anirudh
1. The oil topup on first service was free, so I did not really check the amount of oil that went it. 250ml should be about right though.
2. I have not heard of the “Fusion Basspack”.
For better sound quality I would suggest you to go for a good 6.5″ 2-way component system at front coupled with a good amp.
But, if your budget is 7k, then get some good 6X9 rear coaxials and run them directly off stock HU.
Hi,
Is it possible to fix rear view wiper&Washer for ACTIVE model..
Planning to go for ACTIVE 1.3
Mohan
Nopes, not possible.
I heard heavy road nose when i drive my punto diesel dynamic from bad roads.
already completed 43000 km.
Is it right time to replace tyres. If yes than which tyre i have to replaced for fiat ponto dynamic diesel.
The road noise is probably because for the tyres.
Upgrade to 185/70-R14 (14″) or 195/60-R15 (15″).
Go for MICHELIN, they are the best. Michelin Primacy LC or XM1+.
Hi Sumit,
My Car got delivered last week.. It is really a great car. I am njoying it. Its a Exotica RED.
I feel the 2nd gear is little under power. specifically in heavy traffic condition. R u felling the same.
And one more thing can you explain the how is AC is doing for you. I am bit confused with the AC operation.
Can you explain how to use the AC effectively with those three knobs. the first one has a very little space for Pure blue color and after that red line is there with blue. Manual says blue is for cooling.
